ParticipantSomeone said the thread sucked?

ParticipantWe all want our country to be safe but I also want my country to be free, cuz what’s the point of a “safe” country where I don’t have the freedom to practice a hobby that hurts no one and nothing?
But yeah we probably should move this discussion to the pub if we want to continue it and stop jacking the thread.

ParticipantI don’t know, maybe I’m just different. I just think once I’m outside my door, outside my own personal property I have no real expectation of privacy unless I’m in some place like a changing room or rest room. I overheard some women at work talking about being upset a friend of a friend brought their camera to a polo match they attended and her daughter might be in some of the pictures.
“She could do anything she wants with those pictures. Imagine, my daughter could be on the internet and some pervert could look at the picture and *shudder*”
“Oh, I know what you mean. People should have to ask permission before photographing anyone under the age of say, 12. Or 14. Maybe 18.”I really wanted to walk over, stare at her daughter a few minutes and say something like “No way, she’s not cute enough to get off on.”
Yes, there are probably a small number of people out there who might want to do destructive things to our infrastructure (aside from lawmakers who vote against funding repairs) and pervs who take photos of kids. But if you really want to blow up a bridge the structural plans for many are readily available on the internet. As for pervs, you have the right to ask someone not to take pictures of you just as much as they have the right to take pictures of you in a public place unless you ask them not to.

ParticipantWow and plamadude30k won todays photo of the day!

ParticipantYeah…I can understand the sheer size of the item + buying the photographer’s name (like buying a name brand of something that’s essentially the same as something else, you’re just paying for the Levi/Nike/Gucci/Armani name on it) but IMHO that’s one ugly picture.

ParticipantGoddammitsomuch Ennuipoet.
The irony irony is that orionid was going to use a version of that pond too, black and white and almost EXACTLY the same as yours.

ParticipantIt’s true it’s more work but oh what fun it is to get the negatives and see what turned out. My parents used to shoot 2-3 rolls of film a week in the ’80s and ’90s. Going to pick up the photos at Osco was a weekly ritual. And AFAIK in my mom’s line of work they still use film for their reports because they have to be admissible in court and for property damage digital is not allowed because it is too easily altered.

ParticipantI do tag the curators! I’ve decided to add more commentary on the photos, it seems there’s more of a response when there’s a story. I know there’s a lot of content going through G+ and I’m not sure about the whole pages thing. It’s just going to get more confusing from here it seems.

ParticipantWell I have been commenting on a few people’s things but I’m also kind of scared of some of them since they’re actual professionals and I don’t know which of them are REALLY big names and which are just professionals. I don’t want to look like an idiot. And it probably helps you that your subjects are more often people while mine are definitely not…
At the same time it frustrates me that sometimes I do contribute to a theme and I don’t even get a +1 from the curator (and I always tag them in the post). I realize curating a theme has got to be a ton of work but I equate it to what I do in Farktography and that they signed up to do the job. And then the best received picture I’ve posted was one that I accidentally posted as limited so I missed an opportunity there. I guess just overall I’m at a point where I’m struggling with my confidence with photography in general and what direction I want to go in for the future, how much more money should we invest in this hobby, etc. and I’m in a lull in my own personal creativity where I have ideas of what I’d like to do but the push to actually make them happen is pretty low due to all the other crap going on in our lives right now. TL;dr, I know. Just venting. Google+ is really interesting, maybe once David is on there it’ll heat up more. Sorry I didn’t mean to make this all about me.
Congrats on your win again! I think your photos showed more depth, warmth and humanity than his did and that’s why you won.

Participant4500? Geez. I’m participating in as many themes as I have photos for and I only have a measly 80.

ParticipantWe have a pretty significant telescope here if we can make it work right (apparently when we tried it in Connecticut it thought it was still in upstate New York; now that we know that, it should solve some problems). Should have clear, cold skies tonight.

ParticipantDisguising a bomb as a camera is not exactly the same as having a terrorist taking pictures of a bridge with a dslr in order to determine how to blow it up, which is the reasoning that’s been used to stop people like us from practicing photography in perfectly legal ways.

ParticipantI would take my camera with me more often but when I go to work I don’t trust my locker at work to remain private and I’m sure as hell not leaving a thousand dollars worth of camera stuff in my car in the mall parking lot all day.

ParticipantStories of Aztecan human sacrifice are overrated. But if you’re going to do it, you need to eat the heart, light the body on fire after removing the liver and testicles, THEN throw it down the stairs.
