My first picture was fine and viewed fine in the thread, but then I got a broken link error when I came back to vote. So I reposted it and now that one is broken too. I’m going to repost it one last time in a smaller version, but if you can tell me why it’s breaking I would like to know :/

I usually go to the fark scratchpad (just search for scratchpad) once I have my pictures selected and get the text all set up, copy to my email or notepad, then I can just copy + paste when the thread goes live….course this week I was a little ahead of Linguine by doing so, so don’t do what I did and assume if someone posted a comment already that the initial post is at the top ><

Go to the Hancock building north on Michigan Avenue by Watertower Place, especially if your wife likes to shop. There’s an ice cream parlor, Godiva Store, the Watertower Place shopping center and the Hancock Tower all together, plus its only 2 blocks from the lake and you can take some neat pictures looking south along the lake front or back into the city center. It’s also somewhat close to Navy Pier, which is the place to go if you want to take panoramic skyline pictures and you don’t have a boat. On the south end, the Museum Campus offers another jutting landform that allows you to take wide skyline pictures of the city, as well as pictures of the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Soldier Field. From Navy Pier to the Museum Campus stretches an unbroken line of parks including Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, the “Bean” statue, interactive fountains and the outdoor amphitheater.

These contests have made me ridiculously anal about my file organization on my computer. Now every picture I take is set in a category folder by place it was taken, with the best of those or ones that fit upcoming themes in a separate folder where they are then sorted by what theme they should be in, and then I have another place where I keep everything that I’ve used already. Just typing that made me tired.

    I have about a billion B-sides this week but here’s a few:

And as a bonus, here’s a recording of myself playing aforementioned piccolo in college, on a Japanese piece where I’m trying to imitate the effortless pitch-bending of a shakuhatchi, because we didn’t want to rent one and learn how to play it for just the one piece. You can safely turn the volume up, since it was taped in a giant concert hall balanced for the entire ensemble, the solo part is pretty quiet, and I cut out the middle section because ze french horns, zey were not in tune and it was not the best ensemble performance.

I’m assuming this needs to be actual diffraction of light and not something rainbow colored? I guess it says so in the title but I’m seeking reinforcement.

Bonus: snared another Farktographer into posting 😀

FYI: you snared at least one more, starting with this contest. I have my first three farktography pics ever, ready to go!

I played flute since 2nd grade, piccolo from 7th grade on, and I’m not too shabby on the piano, alto sax, and clarinet. Now I’m teaching myself to play guitar.

Never could quite figure out the brass instruments, although my dad and sister played trombone and my bro played trumpet. Mom played clarinet. We all sing. Could’ve been the von Trapp family 🙂

Welcome, some advice with the number of band geeks around here you may not want to draw attention to the fact that you played piccillo though. *shudders at the thought of tuning piccillos*

🙁 all my pictures this week are of my piccolo.

Also does playing the drums on rockband count? 😛

I hope so cuz that’s the only part of Rock band I’m really good at.

In 8th grade my band teacher offered very inexpensive lessons for any student that wanted to take up a second instrument. My grandfather was professional trumpet player in the 1920s-1940s and I have his trumpet/coronet in storage, so I took trumpet lessons that summer and played it occasionally at basketball games when we had an abundance of flutes and not enough brass. So I can cling to the female trumpet club too. I knew lots of female trumpeters though, in high school and college. One year in high school I think we had 5.

I actually played my piccolo almost all the time in high school and college though, because no one else wanted to.

I was going to spoof Warhol’s Marilyn diptych, but it turns out I have no idea how to do that. I’ve gotta get a factory full of artists to translate my high brow ideas into finished art. Being a genius is rough.

Photobucket has a filter that automatically makes a diptych ala Warhol when you edit an uploaded photo.

And orionid I also second the kudos.

We could do that too. Let anyone who wants their photos considered submit them somehow. Either to a flickr group that we make or right here to this site.

Well that’s where we were going with it before, so I already made a flickr group that can be used if we want to do it this way.

Also I don’t think anyone is interested in making money off of this project. However, as much as I love projects like this and am willing to help in any way I can to get it off the ground, I don’t know I would buy the finished project if it was in the realm of $100. But that’s just my $.02 and if I actually had a lot of pictures worth including in it, I might feel differently.

I think before we really plan too much we probably should seek Drew’s permission/advice about the project. If for whatever reason he can’t give his blessing to it, then there’s no point in putting together a huge project that goes nowhere. If he is interested, maybe he’ll have some resources that either make the page count insignificant or other suggestion from a general fan perspective of what would be good.

Great, thank you very much. I think it will be a lot easier to make a plan once we know the amount of data we are looking at.
