ParticipantMopsy your unknown entry looks like a steam-powered tractor.

ParticipantTo re-explain:
Use 4 – 20 photos on a similar theme to create a single picture. If you can create a “picture in a picture” with 20 photos, fine. But that’s not the point of this theme. The photos can be layered like a collage, but do not have to be.
Kestrana
ParticipantNo text correct.
I don’t like collage either because that implies you have to layer photos and you don’t. If you have another suggestion, I’d like to hear it. Usually though, people take a cue from the first page of entries and that should help decrease giant mosaics.

ParticipantThose are some very creative ideas. I’m fine with both of them.

ParticipantWe had perhaps an hour and a half of that time where we weren’t working but yeah its unusual to work such a long time
Kestrana
ParticipantWell I took the theme name from the Flickr blog entry where my example came from. A mosaic is simply interlocking tiles, which is what this is. You don’t have to have a grid, you can arrange the images in any way you see fit.

ParticipantFor this, we’d rather see the trees than the forest. I think your #1 & 3 are on target, #2 not so much.

ParticipantActually had a thought on some b&w photos “I wish we’d banned b&w this week because I’d love to see what this looked like in color”

ParticipantBetter than “Amercia”

Participantbender we rented a Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8 and then took pretty much all our other lenses: 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 60mm f/2.8, 85mm f/3.5, 18-105mm, 70-300mm. The 50 was on the studio camera. I used the 14-24 and the 70-300 during the ceremony, and switched between the 14-24, the 60 and a little of the 85 during the reception. orionid used the other lenses.

ParticipantAlso, editing 5000 pictures kind of sucks after awhile.

ParticipantConservatories, national forests, private parks and the like should be fine for this contest. I believe it was Farktographer‘s intent to keep it wide open.
geom to reiterate the above points – using Macro mode in camera or a macro lens is always ok. Let us know if we didn’t sufficiently address your question.

ParticipantThat is really cool. I was actually thinking about how neat it would be if there was a website that showed all the local landmarks on our drive home yesterday. Not that we had time to stop, but it was a thought.

ParticipantTo help policing, it doesn’t bother me if people use “formerly used” images in this contest, but I hadn’t mentioned that because I didn’t want to open a new can of worms. Maybe we should amend the contest directions to say:
Use 4 – 20 images to create a photo mosaic. Photo subjects must be similar in nature (exp. 8 different pictures of buoys). All photos must be your own. Normal Farktography rules apply to each individual photo but you may use tools to combine your photos that would normally not be allowed.

ParticipantTo me the word “collage” implies things overlaid with one another, but that is the direction I intended, not the creation of a picture using other pictures. The example buoys picture from Flickr was the inspiration for this theme. So I guess, it’s a collection of similar photos arranged in a pleasing way. I’ll leave “similar” somewhat open – for example if they’re all a bunch of abstract splotches or buttons or whatever. If you want to make a mosaic like ennuipoet did, all the source images must have the same “theme”, i.e. if it’s a picture of a fish, the little pictures should all be fish too. And they should all be your photo. If this is getting too confusing, we could suggest between 4 – 20 individual images or in some other way limit the craziness.
