Whoa this took on a life of its own after I left. Did this become a thing? ?
August 10, 2009 at 8:51 pm #23951KillerclawParticipantHmm.
July 10, 2009 at 8:18 am #23280KillerclawParticipantI can mount FD with an adaptor =)
Not unless you’re willing to degrade your results by adding additional corrective optics or lose infinity focus (the EF mount has a longer flange-focal plane distance than FD). If you want to use old lenses on an EF mount camera you’re actually better off with Nikkors….
Well… I don’t want to add old lenses…I was just saying.

Hey, at least you can still mount and use older lenses. Try sticking an FD mount lens on your shiny new Canon and see what happens. 😉

If you come across an old(er) AF, G or D lens on the cheap, it will auto focus with a D50 (out of production, can be found cheap in some online sources) or with a D90 ($$$).
There’s also the D5000, which I haven’t used or spoken with anyone who has, but appears to be a D90 sensor and processor in the smaller body/frame, which means it also will be manual only on non AF-S lenses. But it’s $250 cheaper than the 90.
Nuts and bolts:
AF-S and AF-I lenses have a motor inside them. Tradeoffs: heavier, quieter, costlier, cheaper camera bodies
AF, D, and G lenses have a screw-type autofocus and require the camera body to have a motor. Ergo, exact opposite of above. Some nikons support both types (D50, 90, and most higher-end ones) but tend to cost more and have a larger, heavier frame
The cheaper/smaller nikons do not have the internal motor (D40, 60, etc) but use their size/weight as a selling point, and come with the recomendation of only using the AF-S lenses./Biased
//I heart my nikons
///careful, it becomes a cult, then you start to look at canon users in a distrusting manner.
////Besides, it’s not like U-Man or Elsinore ever took any decent photos with their canons

Let me tell you this: even with the fastest glass you’re going to want 800 speed film for a concert. I’ve shot a bunch of concerts, and I’ve only shot one with film. Film is awesome in many ways, but DSLRs are way better for concerts quality wise.
Not to mention that concerts call for 100s of exposures.
June 3, 2009 at 2:14 am #23095KillerclawParticipantI would agree with the Nikon D40 as a good choice, so is the Rebel.. However in my opinion the best value in “entry level” DSLR is the Olympus E520 w/ the 2 lens kit.
How can you beat this deal?
The camera is very very good. I owned one before I switched to Canon. I started out with an E 500 which I absolutely loved.
The Zuiko lenses are very good quality and not terribly expensive because unlike Nikon or Canon the IS is in the camera body.
The only con I can think of with this camera is that unlike my E 500 it is very small. I am a big dude with big hands and really wasn’t comfortable using it. Had I known that Oly was coming out with the E30 I probably would have stayed with them or maybe I should have bought an E3 since it was the same price as my 40D
Those packages are usually scams.

February 5, 2009 at 5:41 am #20628KillerclawParticipantI entered this week.
I haven’t felt very inspired lately.
Car accidents and tragic break ups will do that…
January 10, 2009 at 1:48 am #20436KillerclawParticipantstupido, do you have any samples?
Seconded
January 9, 2009 at 6:06 pm #20881KillerclawParticipantI wish I had a tripod manly enough for my 70-210 lens so I could shoot the moon.
