Hmmm. I actually do shoot for the contests, and I think that’s half the fun/challenge for me.

On another note, Southwest Airlines sucks! They screwed up my husband’s connecting flight so he is stuck in Seattle for the night. Grrr. 😈

How many of you would be interested in a new photography contest site? There would be a submission deadline, noone sees submissions until the deadline, and then there would be a defined voting period. Also a comment section for each individual submission without having to search the entire thread for them.

I’d like to also include a way for votes collected to be used in “purchasing” various items, like flash cards or the like. I would need to work out the way to make sure that there isn’t vote abuse and verify that submitters are the actual photographers/copyright holders of the images submitted.

Let me know what everyone thinks. I’m open to all suggestions.

I’d be willing to check it out, but it will be hit and miss for me from now until the end of August. The hubby works at sea, 40 on and 40 off year round, but he gets home in a couple of hours so let the 40 off begin!

Hmmm, I gotta say I’m not a big fan of limiting submissions. Usually my least favorite of the 3 I submit is the one the Farkers like the most, and it’s almost always hard to pick just three. Besides, Total Fark is only 5 bucks a month.

Oh, and I don’t know anything about Gimp, but it must have similar features? I also don’t know if I made much of a difference, but I would play around with it a bit more if I were you. My cropping is a little “off” too. 😕

I wouldn’t say you are SOL. I like the pic so I put it in Photoshop Elements and tweeked it a little. Keep in mind that my monitor is an 11 year old Gateway2000 CrystalScan and that I don’t know what those birds are supposed to look like. You’re so lucky to see them in your backyard by the way! Anyhoo… I cropped out quite a bit of the table because it was shiny, but also because I really love the bird in flight (Awesome catch!) and thought it should be more prominent. I also used the shadows and highlight tool and used 61 on the darken highlight, +12 midtones, and 0 on the lighten shadows. Under the adjust color tool I reduced the saturation 22. I think it helped, but like I said, I have monitor issues. Here is what I came up with:
