Thank you for the comments, Curious! I totally agree with what you said… and yes, I was very aware that my “first dance” picture was really more the part of the theme that said “an image that suggests dancing”.

Just so I get my lingo, I am assuming that “separation” means that the primary subject is separated by either distance from the other objects or depth of field, yes? Or is separation just that quality of “Oh, i know what the primary subject is”?

I think, for me, my goal is constantly to get that “perfect shot”… I nearly had it, one of my favourite ever (even if it isn’t technically great) is my entry for “H2O” a while back.

I don’t know what it is about that image… but for me, it represents my “best picture”. Can anyone technically explain that? I think it’s because it’s very candid and joyous… but… I have tried and have been mostly unable to capture that feeling again. I guess it’s sort of like hitting the “sweet shot” in golf, huh? 😛

Or maybe its just me, and that’s a horribly composed shot 😛

I think it’s a great shot! I love how natural and happy the girls are and I think the composition is just about perfect.

As far as what I think about the voting… People (that aren’t photographers) vote mostly with their emotions. I’m guilty of it too though. If there is a kid or a pet in the photo, I can’t not vote for it. 😯

Count me out of the critiquing! It was the thing I hated most about the photography class I took. I have a hard time saying anything negative about anything. Accentuate the positive, I always say. 😛

Hello, Farktographers… I was once a lurker/occasional “end of the thread” poster… I really got into photography this year and I find the Fark contests amazingly helpful and educational. This last few weeks I’ve started to actually pull together shots and work for the contests, it’s been great.

I just wanted to say hi, and register here so I can be more a part of this community. I’m very open to comments/critiques because I’m beginning to realize that this is going to be a lifelong endeavour.

Well hello there! I’m really glad to have you here and I’m looking forward to your submissions. I missed the dance thread, but I will be there (when it hits the mainpage) for the hands theme.

This contest has made me realize that I need to cut out the macro shit and learn to compose a real picture. I’ve spent so much time with my camera in gardens and yet I have very few overall shots. Everything’s a close-up!

I heard that. Today when I took my shots I had to really force myself to step back.

Thanks Curious. Whenever I can finish going through the ones I’ve got, I’ll put a couple in the Gallery. I have one of a fishing boat at sunset that I really like.

Pterodactyl? That would be pterrifying! Or pterrific, maybe.

Wow. I finally got a chance to take a good look at the boat thread. So many great photos and too many to comment on, as always. I will mention 2 though. Lovesandwich, your Annecy France 3/3 photo is sooo pretty! And I have to mention FarkingClever‘s kayaking photo because I was surprised to see the city where I live!

I’m sooo sorry I missed this one! Great job folks.

    Note: Paws are not hands.

Says you. I had a polydactyl kitty when I was growing up that would beg to differ. 😛

Genevieve looks less baked, I think.

You might even say perky! 😆

    Nice work.
