I had something of a family emergency to attend to. As a result, I got 2 hours of sleep before my shift. Just got home. Damned tired!

I love this–a sure contender for the ‘macro’ contest from the walk. It was awesome to finally meet you and I’m sorry I had to bail like I did.

To do “serious” birding, one needs at least a 300mm on a APS-C, 400mm on FF, an extender doesn’t hurt either. Naturally, the five thousand plus dollars for such lenses tend make that a little…ah, daunting.

Seriously? //I gotta start looking at extenders for my lens; I’m at 480mm equiv APC, and if I could just bump that up to 960…no coffee that day….need a steady hand from on far.

All of my entries were shot on my 70-200 f4L, but I cheated: I went to shows and zoos where I could get up close and personal with the birds. I enjoy photographing birds, it’s challenging and the results can be stellar, but the whole endeavor is far out of my price range I couldn’t see it with the Hubble.

Siriusly? //I gotta start looking at wide angle-close lenses; I’m at 24mm equiv APC, and if I could just bump that down to 12…I’ll need coffee that day; need quick reflexes from up close.

Now that I’m home, I can see I’d cropped the offending image; it’s about 1/3 less the DPI of the others (since they all got printed 8×10). That makes sense, then. Thanks guys!

Irfanview has been giving me troubles since the last two updates. :o( Won’t ‘save for web’ the normal way, though there’s the work-around for it that results in images of nearly as small a size.

Nice picture, though! It’ll surely get some votes!

The titles of this theme should be “Egrets, I Have A Few…” 🙂

    Now that’s funny.

I do need to go shooting with you caradoc It’s funny that in two year’s time here we haven’t yet even met in person! There’s 50+ people I’ve known for far less time on G+ that I’ve already gone shooting with.

I’ve only in the past year gotten to the point where I’m happy with some of my bird images. Due to a lack of variety where I’ve frequented for them I’ll have a blue heron as one of my three, and no predatory birds (which I fear are the ones that will get the most votes; my one osprey just isn’t quite clear enough for my tastes). I do have a cute one of a stilt with it’s chick that I hope does okay, though.

I’m gambling that it freezes well; most dishes like this do.

I remember my grandmother’s ‘darkroom’; it sat upon the washer and dryer, and woe be to he who didn’t do his duds in between developing sessions, for it could be days before she got around to re-establishing the room fit for laundering.
