ParticipantI’m waiting to see shots of a komodo dragon in the snow.
I could photoshop this. I have the komodo pictures. I have the snow pictures. Skillz? Well, street-fair to the lower end of middlin’…

Participantok you have D&D with caps then you have dungeons and (mythical) dragons with out caps. are all fair game?
for instance i have a bow and some arrows. like a step or two above what a kid might have. if i took a picture ……… well right now i have no idea how i’d make an interesting photo of them but if i did ………..
I’m sure what you describe would be fine, ]Curious; bows are mentioned in the examples cited.
I’ve been caught unawares–I was wool-gathering–and all of a sudden I realize I have nothing for this. I put out a message on FB and a friend whom I haven’t seen in 18 years got married to a D&D figurine geek, and “per her say-so”, he’s willing to let me borrow some of his collection for a few days so I can get at least something put together.
Knowing this community, I’ll need to bring my A-game. Here’s hoping. 🙂

ParticipantMy last P+S was a Kodak; took great pictures, some of which have done well in the contests–from well before I knew what the hell I was trying to do. I’m sure the newer cameras would do even better for me, especially given my greater knowledge base, learned here, in regards to settings. I’d hate to see that iconic company go.

ParticipantA final option is to design your own calendar (many programs offer that option, and there’s some freeware ones, too) and take it to Kinko’s or someplace similar.
The benefits there include total control over design, and the ability to approve/disapprove print quality prior to purchase.
Now there’s a thought. I’ll look through my software and see if any have calender support. It took me a couple hours to get the first few months done at lulu. OTOH, might take me that long doing it this way–but I’d have more complete artistic freedom.

ParticipantI can appreciate that Orionid–but they’re $19 from 2-20 copies, and after 5, I can get them for $9.95 at Lulu. Of course, there’s the ‘you get what you pay for’ factor, but I have purchased t-shirts through them before; one of which I still have after 5 years because it’s a favorite. Here’s hoping that quality extends to other medium. It’s stained, but there’s no holes…I wear it to every festive occasion because it reads “Who do I have to sleep with around here to get laid, anyway?’ and it’s a conversation starter.

ParticipantI checked out a number of these, and another friend I was chatting with suggested lulu. They seem to have a lot of features I’m not seeing at mpix and the other places (pictured within the date fields, for example, and a wider selection of formats that I can do differently on each page (plus they have one without any preset background.) Price, after buying 5, seems pretty good, too; for what options it gives.
I’ll give that a go (I’ve already determined I have a lot of resizing to do) and see how it works. I’ll let you all know! (if there’s enough lead time, I’d like to see one before I order bunches.)

ParticipantAhh, I don’t want the absolutely highest of quality, but I do want something nice. I’ll check them out, though.

ParticipantRight out of the gate, fantastic job, everyone! It seems I’m remiss–I forgot to get lipstick for my cat triptych…

Participant+1, if it’s in the Spring or Summer.

ParticipantI think I’m done. Oh, hell. I know I’m done–this is exhaustive. Two people, one cat. Swore to myself that I wouldn’t resort to the cat. But oh, well. He was posing, and the afternoon light into the room made for nice tones. It is what it is and we’ll see how they do.
Fun exercise. Hard work.
Can we never do this again? 😉
ravnostic
ParticipantIn fact, I think I’m going to make a Farktography G+ page.
Please do!! 😀
I’ll be the first to circle (or at least the first wanting to circle.)
ravnostic
ParticipantEven those are OK – as far as I’m concerned.
Any objections?
None from this peanut gallery. As it’s turning out, though, I think I’m going borderless. With a white background, one particular triptych’s images seem to ‘float’, independent of each other, but obviously part of a whole.
I think I like that.

ParticipantI’m just glad for a contest where photoshop skills count for something
😉I gave up on Elements. My PS-foo is weak, but I have strong Roxio-foo, so I’ve been using that (for the first time in ages). 😕
Don’t get me wrong, U-Man I’m loving the theme, it’s just a lot of work. But then, if I want to be a better photographer, and make better compositions, then it stands to reason this exercise is worth the effort. And it is an effort. Frustrating, compelling, tedious, enthralling–there’s a lot of stuff going on here. I’m lucky that I didn’t work today, nor will I tomorrrow, so I can do my best-est.

ParticipantThis whole contest is mind-boggling. I have to compose a shot, comprised of compositions of 3 shots, and display them effectively. Then I have to do that for two more shots. I’m doing three times the work than I normally do. And I keep second-guessing myself. “If I just change this, that and the other thing” becomes two hours of adjustments to three pictures, and changing layouts.
And I only have 1 done, 1 started (which prompted this rant), and one only in my dreams.
Some of this experience had better sink in deep to my brain and make me a better photographer. Elsewise, heads are gonna roll. 🙂
ravnostic
ParticipantI think I’ve got one! I’m having a lot of difficulty with composition–this is so new to me!
