ParticipantNot that it’s completely fancy, but if you just want to show your work in a way that’s easy for people to view, you’re welcome to my webpage layout (ravnostic.com), I can send the files easily. That cuts out the need to do most of the coding, and what coding you would do would just be copy/paste.
You’d need to rewrite the verbiage, replace the picture images with your own, and buy the cheapest hosting plan you can find (I like godaddy’s, some others don’t, but I found it pretty easy to operate) and upload the pages/images. If you’re only looking to put the work out there, it’s well within your capabilities to do.
For that matter, my hosting allows me as many websites as I’d like, so if you bought a domain name, I’d be happy to add it in–got lots of room, unlimited bandwidth (both ways). The only difficulty would be getting me the picture files if there were a ton of them. But if you link to your flickr (or whatever site), you’d not even have to do that.
Just putting it out there. I’d be happy to help out in any way I can in regards to reworking the page–it’s not really that difficult to do (at the level I’m doing it, at least!)

ParticipantRav; I disagree about the (non-participating) voters knowing what’s best for fitting in the theme, especially if there’s a certain difficulty and there are many entries. A lot probably just vote for what they like, without really thinking about the theme details. But, they do get the final say, so there’s that. 😉 I think it’s more important, as part of the challenge, to make sure we fit the theme, rather than a voter who only read ‘Triptych’ and moved on to start looking at the (sure to be) awesome pictures.
The reason I play is so I can improve my skills by being given a subject, and going after it, and comparing my own results with those of others given the same subject so I can grow as a photographer. The only way to compare is by the votes, most of the time. It’s not a ‘ruling’–audience is the major consideration.
So I ‘shoot’ to learn and grow, but I select to ‘post’ what I hope will do well with an audience such as we have here. Lately, it’s been working out for me, but I don’t plan on taking that for granted–it’s a mad, mad world.
As a voter, however, I’m compelled to consider the theme suggestor’s intentions, which is what we go into in this forum. Depending on the theme, either the base farktography community will determine the victor, or the teeming masses of GFarkers will. Usually it seems it’s a composite of both–so I long ago gave up on predicting how such things will go.

Participant12 pages of commentary and I’m dizzy.
I’ve done a couple attempts at stuff, but nothing usable yet.
Back in my noob days, I suggested theme after theme to no success. Eventually, a few sneaked through. Threads like this are why I don’t do so much suggesting anymore. It can get so complicated. I’m all for the ‘post what you think the theme’ is and let the voters decide. They know what’s best, anyway. Or mostly so. I think I’ll need another visit to the zoo or botanical gardens for this one.

ParticipantKes, from 3 hours into envotenating on Wednesday (Thursday, E/CST), I was just waiting for you to overtake me, and all the way to the last minutes Sunday morning. That shot was full of win, and I’m glad it did. :o)
Also glad I managed to eek out a first place for myself, of course. I gotta share–a lot of my selections of what to submit are based on having ‘previewed’ them first on Google+, to good response. Kinda like Neilson sampling. 😉

ParticipantInset pics: On main image spanning to the borders on all sides, with smaller pictures placed strategically within those borders. I had the same question.

ParticipantThat #2 picture just can’t be a real photograph. No freaking way.
Could be; imagine 30 seconds, with the lightning flash at the last.
I figure the NG guys have some sort of vetting process to figure these things. And it’s not farktography–tonemapping and such area-specific corrections aren’t disallowed.
But yeah–pretty friggin’ incredible shot.

ParticipantI have procrastinated on principle: Our state sold it’s government buildings and then leased them from the buyers. I’m still pissed about this.
I plan on shooting tomorrow, but it might be pretty dull–I’ve lost some inspiration.

ParticipantCrap–I was thinking this was the week for Triptychs. Now I gotta rearrange all my plans.
What’s this fuss about blowing up bridges? Nevermind. I don’t have the time…

ParticipantThat’s awesome, Plama! Congrats! I think I’ll have to give this a go…

Participantya know, I always SWORE I would NEVER EVER EVER change from film to digital (I also swore I’d never do those mp3 thingys). Seeing this contest and what’s posted and the quality difference is AMAZING. And soon enough there’s going to be something I’m going to refuse to give up and learn and then I shall be old and useless.
To a point, perhaps. But what wasn’t done was much post processing. In my photos, for example, I could have (within the scanner even, let alone the computer) reduced the noise, enhanced the colors, sharpened the image, and adjusted the curves for a more pleasing effect.
I think the majority of pictures represent our photography without doing those things. Heck, due to a kick-arse clean-room cloth wiping process, I didn’t even have to do any dust deletes (which would have been totally kosher to do.)
OMG I hope I didn’t offend. I voted and there was a heapton of awesome in there. The compositions and photos themselves are just as good. I was just thinking aloud about the basic ability to point and shoot and upload and clarity.
No offense taken. I think there’s loads of awesomeness, too.
But I also think we get spoiled by digital in the ease in which we can bring out the elements that help make a photo special. Much more difficult with film, unless you happen to have your own darkroom and a load of chemicals and a lot of chemistry know-how.
Not to mention the instant gratification of knowing, right then and there, if you captured a photo that’s going to represent what you wanted it to be in the first place.

ParticipantOrigami is one of my passions; I’d love the pattern if it’s something you’d care to share. I’m particularly fond of tessellations, and this strikes me as a very three dimensional one.

ParticipantThere’s about a dozen contests a day for one style of picture or another. But Olavf’s contest is special.

ParticipantIt’s really stunning. Welcome back!!
