ParticipantI’m personally partial to ‘Scanner as Camera’. But Cloudscapes, B/W Classic, and Weather are good, too.
//nevermind those all happen to be themes I won. Totally coincidental. 😀
I think for sheer votes, “I did tee a puddytat” is probably it.

ParticipantElsinore I managed to get them posted with 5 minutes to spare–can you remove Farktographer‘s OBOs (but thanks Farktographer.
Time to make the donuts…
//computer wafers, donuts, same difference.

ParticipantI’m going to try to sneak my shots in myself before I start work. I have a 9 minute window to work with.

ParticipantI’m up to some 2K followers, but I try to be pretty active in the Photo Critique circle–I know I got a lot of them from there, but I doubt that many of them see my posts–the circle is just too damned many people. I try to visit the pages of those who do comment on my shots and return the favor. I get so many requests daily that I just go lump them all in a group circle ‘to be determined later’. If they comment me, then I go figure out which circles are more appropriate for them (the rest of them who aren’t saying anything…I don’t bother.)
It’s a great venue for vetting my contest selections. I just post the ones I’m considering, then wait to see what people like the most.
Congrats on the win, Olavf–that’s quite the accomplishment against the likes of Giuseppe!!

ParticipantI got my 3. Not particularly happy with them; I seem to have misplaced an entire box of photos somewhere. And the ones I just took? Crap. All crap. I either need to get something more current than a 1940’s Argus or just stop shooting film all together.

ParticipantDidn’t you have some film stuff you shot this summer?
I do, I did, but it’s all ‘meah.’
However, it seems I’m awake (I’ll regret being so at 6am tomorrow), so I’ll head over and see how these two rolls came out. I can also grab from the archive shoe box, but I’m not anticipating having anything there I’ll like. We’ll see what happens, though. I have a b/w of snow at night I took in college, as well, if I can find it.

ParticipantGiven that:
1) I wouldn’t want to go against the spirit of the theme
2) I slept throughout the entire day
3) My CVS apparently only processes film until the day shift goes home, so I’m SOL on developing unless I screw myself out of sleep for my job that pays my utilities and such nonsense
4) I’m busy tonight trying to stupidly capture a fleetingly dim asteroid on a moon-lit night–no mean feat…(*fail* is eminent…)I guess I’m just going to skip this week.
Farktographer, enjoy the totalness!! Consider it a ‘boon’.
Assuming (yeah, I know…) I get my ‘carp’ together by the 16th, I’ll see ya’ll for next week’s contest…

…or something like that…

ParticipantI had to amend the post (twice!), to clarify something about it’s path. With respect to the stars and the pole star, it will be moving clockwise (easterly). But with respect to the sky and our view of it, it will be moving counter clockwise (westerly). As it happens, Markab and Algenib are each about the same distance away from Polaris, and since the asteroids path is tangent to those two stars, there are some goods and bads that will be associated with capturing it on film (or sensor, which would be easier), I think.
I’m no astrophysicist (can we have an astrophysicist to the podium, please, Plama?), but I’m thinking since it’s moving against, yet parallel to, the background sky, then in a 15 minute exposure, the stars will have moved about 4 degrees, but the asteroid (at 8:30 MST) only 3 (these are loose approximations). So the asteroid will be spending some 33% more time in a given point in the sky than the background stars–this should make it appear some 33% brighter in long exposure (or technically short exposure too) photos.
Unfortunately, that difference isn’t much–about some .3 magnitudes? And in the photo, since the movement would more-or-less follow the same arc of the stars, it might be trickier to identify. I’m hoping for a counter-arc appearance, or at least a measurable difference in trailing.
Since I think A-focal via the telescope would be very difficult for me (and it’s cold outside), I’ll piggyback the 70-300 on the scope. I’ll still suffer from axis rotation (a lot–when objects are high in the sky, the alt-az can almost spin of it’s own accord), but should be able to get enough FOV and enough light to be able to ID the thing. I hope. It doesn’t help that the moon is so strong.
Fingers crossed. My application is strong this year–a condemnation from the mayor…:-D

ParticipantI think Alaska has DST as well, though. It’s Arizona and Hawaii that don’t. These also just happen to be the two states I have lived in for the past six years.
I think perhaps at the time of the quote maybe Alaska didn’t? Maybe I’ll have to look that up. And there’s a few parts of Indiana that don’t bother, IIRC.

ParticipantActually, to double-check, what time *is* live posting for TFers? For me as a liter it was always midnight EST (5 a.m. GMT). Is it 3 hours before (so 9 EST)?
The time difference gets screwy with standard time vs. summer time. I think you only need to stay up until 1 am in Britain. I only started back with Farktography this past summer, so it’s always been EDT for me (once I figured it all out). I wish the US would just get rid of DST once and for all. Think of the AC costs it would save.
There’s a cute little picture going around FB right now with some famous indian (I don’t recall which) who says something along the lines of “I’ve studied this Daylight Saving Time thing and am convinced that Arizona and Alaska are right. Only the government could think you could take off a foot at the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.”
My thoughts exactly.
**Contest posts at 8pm eastern for TF’s, regardless of DST. I show a 5 hour difference between N.Y. and London, so if you’re in the London time zone, 1am would be the ‘go’ time.

😆 @ the both of you. Scrolling this is wacky!
I think I’ve been misquoted here. Just sayin’ 😆

ParticipantTotal Farkdom! Eeeee! Thanks, Rav! That means I get to wake up at 2 a.m. instead to post the shots…maybe I can actually fall back to sleep after I’m done 😉
You’re welcome. Film is cheap (though I can’t find b/w), but processing not so much–I figure if I’m going to spend it, it’s worth it to get them posted earlier. Where the heck are you that the thread goes up at 2am?!? In San Diego it should be 5pm, PST.
And on the note of not finding b/w film, mods,–is it okay to take pictures with b/w in mind, then scan them as such, or is that going too far from ‘film’. I just shot a roll that I’d envisioned in b/w until I found nobody carries it (except one shop too far away to drive to). I shot it anyway.
ravnostic
ParticipantI like the pub shots, also. 🙂

ParticipantI can post OBO for both of you…you know, if you’re alright with a ‘liter doing it.
You had me until ‘liter. So…I gifted you for a month. Welcome to TFdom! 😀
Not that I’ll have anything for this…just had my last roll developed..24 images to the roll, and only one had the clarity and color I want…and unfortunately the scene isn’t what I’d call breathtaking (more like breath-gasping).
Looks like I’m going to have to buy some more film.
And bring my tripod and release cable.
And probably go back to composition 101, as well. 😉
//gonna be a busy afternoon.
