The variations do include all things tonal from white to black, except in color, correct? I mean, dark dark blue is perceived as black and light light blue is perceived as white, but it’s just the tonal ranges? Or are we looking for color-only?

Surprising to find I have a wealth of images in the archives that fit this theme. Or at least I think they do. I could be totally off base. Decision making time!

If you really need the extra resolution the 6d can give you 10/9 the pixels of that. And the newest 5d can get 11/10 the pixels of the 6D.
So, as you can see, those cowboys are pushing the envelope as far as they can. I mean, when the 1Ds came out in 2004 we all thought “woah, 16.7mp! Just think, in 2014 we could get something crazy, like 16.75 or 17.01mp” But it’s just 2013 and they’ve already cranked it up to 18.1mp. Heady times.

Very happy with the 2Ti’s 18Mpxls. But the reason I want and dammit as soon as they allow overtime again I’ll be busting my phuqin arse to get must have the 6D is the low-hi ISO noise. Clean pixels at 6400?? Sirius-ly? I’ll be able to take 15 second shots instead of 2 minute exposures of galaxies? (or push the envelope; 8 second images at 12800 and a few more frames should clean it up nicely). Astrophotography will get a whole lot easier for me. A whole lot. 2 hours of 2Ti time cut down to 30 minutes. Productivity will octuple.

Orionid chase the features, indeed. Ya’ll know what I’ll be chasing. (Esp. just having my astrofark arse handed to me 🙄 )

Sure if I have 3-4 hours each way, Orionid. I suppose Tonto National Forest might count; as it’s registered and all that.

//think I’ll settle for one of the riparian habitats; we have a few of those now, one stretches over 4 miles, 3 miles south of downtown, and I’ve got a few pictures from there now.

So there I was, it was early April, 2013, in New Orleans. The Big Easy. Mardi Gras central. Bourbon Street. We were all upstairs in a rented room above some cheap gin joint that sold overpriced hooch to tourists with more money that taste, and who should I run into but the legen-wait-for-it-dary Drew Curtis of Drew Curtis’ Fark.com (not to be confused with the similarly sounding named but entirely different yet still copyrighted Farktography.net) and his faithful (and perhaps now much more network savvy) sidekick Mike Andrews. I was packing my Canon model T2i, and that night she was sporting the Tamron 10-24 zoom and 580EX Speedlite. You heard that right. I was armed for party pics, and party pics I got (including a couple shots of some groomsmen flashing their buttocks that are a bit too scary for the light of day or sober minds). So the three of us were bellied up to the bar and the topic of conversation turned to a filehost for the photos of this epic rager that will be known in the annals of history as FarkConIII or maybe Fark World Party New Orleans Edition (we’re really not settled on a name yet, and the thing has been over for about 5 weeks now). Anyway, to make a long story short, Drew and Mike said that since bandwidth was now so cheap, Fark might start hosting images itself. It’s true, I tell you. I heard it with my own ears. And I’ve got the pics to prove it. (I’m just not sure which thread I put a link to them in.)

    The End.

    I’m sold. 😀

Given that I live in a desert, will cacti and sagebrush do? Riparian oasii?

Already some nice stuff up there. I saw plenty that are better (to me) than what I submitted. Only went with one deep sky object as I’ve learned that I need a smaller telescope, or a viewing site above a substantial amount of the earth’s atmosphere. Seeing kills me every time; there is no getting around the 1/2 arc second seeing limit near sea level and I just don’t have a wide enough FOV to not make it plainly evident that the stars look like balls of light when they should look like pin pricks when images are recorded in minutes and not microseconds.

//oh well. Hopefully the ISS will do alright. I figured an inset wouldn’t be kosher so I linked to one with it as I think the ISS detail was pretty good in the shot.

So I got it. Then came straight to work. I just picked a frame, found it, did some contrast stuff, cropped, and posted. I don’t have photoshop or stacking tools on the old laptop I took with me. In the morning, I’ll look through the frames to find the ‘best’ shots and see what I can do that’s better, but for a first look, it’s here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/107857888121727893520/posts/QXPHmGJt5wE

Scattered clouds here, too, NBD …but the western sky seems clear! Looks like if I can get this, I won’t be facing a slew of others with prettier foregrounds I guess!

Yeah; gotta agree with Yugo; I actually hate this annual contest because it takes so long to vote for everything (if only there were a ‘vote for all’ button!)

And in other news, I woke up late for work yesterday so I just got home threw up my images; hopefully some of you who’ve already voted will pop back in and consider whether you’d like to vote for mine…?
