ParticipantNope–just ‘thumbs up’ the post–it’s there at the top of the thread. (with little icon thumb goodness, to boot…)

ParticipantWe’ve had a couple of those over the years, but thankfully they’re not the norm. I’m hoping my response will nip that kind of thing in the bud. Someone’s also been voting down our links consistently every week for at least the past 6 weeks. Not sure what’s up with that.
I wondered what was going on with that and why the threads only had a few votes lately.
has everybody +1’d this lately?

ParticipantI just racked up 1163 outtakes and 51 maybes that will cull out maybe two keepers. This better damn well be worth it.
Uh…I’d say it was worth it. 😀
Dayum. Hope there was something between the camera and the blade.

Participant*piffle*
//see ute’s on the flip side? 😛 😆 😉
it iz wud it iz…
…here’s hoping the voters don’t notice…

ParticipantI don’t think I’ll be using either of these, so may I use them to query on the technical aspects of bokeh to help me decide what I will use? Which is a better example, or are there merits to both (or *sigh* neither?)

ParticipantWant.
Pardon me while I wipe up this drool off the floor…
ravnostic
ParticipantHeh. But I decided not to try to be funny this week, so I’ll share here instead (it’s not great bokeh anyway).

ParticipantYay! Sounds like a recoup of the $30 and 183% profit to me. Nice!

ParticipantRegarding the latest comments (from U-Mans request about the description on). I have well over a dozen may “b”s for this (more like 2 doz.). I’ve visited the websites Else recommended. I’ve looked through forums. I reviewed the entries from the original. I think get[/b] the basic idea. But everything I see from one website/forum/picture to the next seems to contradict the one previous, and then back again.
I still have no clue as to whether anything I have even remotely defines excellent (or really poor) bokeh, and I’ll just probably go with posting the shots I like best, and voting be damned. If parts be clearly focused and parts be not, that’s about all I’ll ever understand about doing bokeh.
Am I the only one feeling this way?

ParticipantWorking, and tomorrow’s moon will be even fuller. AND we have clouds (I see them on my breaks). Batting .000 here…we have the ISS passing over at 4:35-4:45, hopefully there will be a break.

ParticipantMy focus will be two-fold. 1) Local scenes (desert shots, etc.) to appeal to the out-of-towners, as though I think it’s ‘boring’ because I see it every day, I’ve been told most beginning photographers do best with their local surroundings and 2) The stuff that’s done best in the contests–which, in many cases, is the same thing–my 1st place from “Weather”, the 4th place Superstition panorama from “Volcanos, etc”, my 3rd place shot from “Stars” (photoshopping that damned plane out, though), the 4th place in “15 minutes”.
You might want to have some of your “artsy” stuff like your entries from Artsy Fartsy and maybe Defunct and Urban Art. Seems like your audience might be more artsy oriented. Or is that just a stereotype? 😉
Could be. 😀 The pictures of the sheep are among the shots I’m including, and a couple others of the better DP lens shots. (Color Pop, an artsier, fartsier version of ‘The long road behind you’, here: http://ravnostic.com/darlot.html )
//edit lol@zp; just looked back at ‘Defunct’ and saw the sperm oil shot. *giggles*. Yeah, that $play$ well in that crowd…

ParticipantGood information olavf, TYVM!! I might (oh, hell, I will probably) be willing to extend the budget as necessary to get a suitable variety. The backside formatting option is a ++.
ravnostic
ParticipantThanks, CISS!!
Elsinore, can you please envotenate Kestrana‘s first entry? Stat, before I forget to go back and vote for it?
//edit: and Oddminds too?

Did I get that right, CISS?

ParticipantBring a crapload of business cards, and you know what seems to move around here – based on what I see people buying from the folks doing local events? Postcards at $3-$5 a pop.
Got the business card thing covered. Most pressing is getting a vendor license from the city, though (on the agenda, next ‘weekend’, which is to say Monday & Tuesday as Sunday is right out.)
My focus will be two-fold.
I’ve spent a portion of this evening pricing things out with the local quality print shop. For the 161 mattes I have, I’m at $200. I’ll invest about $100 in postcards, I think, though I don’t think I’m going to pay for the quality prints for those–I’ll get them in bulk from some online-site somewhere, more bang-for-the-buck and a not-so-quality print (though still good).
Suggestions on a good economical one?

ParticipantCISS, how do you link to a particular entry in a particular contest page? I’d love to have that skill added to my toolbox. PATY?
