Elsinore, since you mod some bokeh forums, can you post some links to some really good examples of quality shots so I can focus my efforts toward the right sort of imagery?

Is it just my access at work or has fark.com gone down?

I would like to point out that my wife is nowhere near as active as my submissions make it appear.

Oh, yeah….Fark the Steelers. Go Browns.

Browns? Oh, right. That expansion team that formed after the old Cleveland team uprooted to Baltimore. Just not the same.

/Kinda still like the browns, though as a second-fiddle team.
//I think we can mutually agree to fark the ravens, though.

Boy, I thought the Nikon~Canon battles were brutal…you sports enthusiasts can be cruel. 😉

No, if the image demonstrates bokeh and not simply soft focus, you should be fine, though I’m not sure how well an image like the one you posted earlier in the thread would do in a bokeh theme thread.

Yeah, that’s my concern, too. 🙁 But maybe I’ll get one I like. I try to take shots with all my lenses for most contests, for the practice with each.

I get that soft focus isn’t bokeh, was just saying it’s part of the DP’s nature. That doesn’t rule it’s usage for the contest, does it, assuming the image elsewise displays bokeh? Not saying I MUST use the lens (in fact, I’m very in love with my 50mm f1/4 for it’s shallow DOF and took some lovely shots with it this weekend), but I’d like to have it as an option. It’s really a fun lens to use, despite it’s weight and other shortcomings.

I’m thinking I’ll pick the best lightning shots for “Power”, if the theme goes green.

Lightning with stars–always one of my favorites. A little large to post here, but it needs to be to see the stars:

Rav, that is an awesome shot

Thanks. I changed my mind about 3 minutes ago and decided to use it. 🙂

I’m with QueenBee and ravnostic, really did some deep searching to come up with meager photos. Oh, well, haven’t been doing well for some time now, guess this will be another week of less that good pics. I do have some ideas for the “Portals” theme that may lift my standing a little. But again, who knows.

I actually wound up quite pleased with my efforts. All my photos are solo sportists as opposed to shots of ‘that great catch’ ‘that great slide home’ etc, but given my attitude towards sports I think I did okay (hey–I like them at least.) Hopefully a few voters feel the same.

I was fortunate that after I’d given up, on my last day of shooting, I came across a guy on a skateboard (of sorts) doing some sort of nifty parasailing. I don’t even know what you’d call the sport, but it looked pretty cool. The bonus is it was in a giant abandoned parking lot, so I’ll be going back when ‘parking lots’ comes up in the queue. 🙂

Which means this one became a ‘b-side’ shot, though I may use it in some other contest:

chupaIt’s actually a very nice image, IMO. I have yet to do as well, despite working with far nicer glass (or mirror, rather, in my case). Evey one I’ve got of the ring (all of three) has multi-stars due to shake. Yours is much nicer.

Well, I managed to pare it down to 17 choices. I’m likely suffering from proud dad bias on several, so independent opinions would be appreciated if you’ve got the time. Candidates are here. TIA.

    …and this is why I’m totally out-classed.

    //8840–OMG!! Did he survive?

    Wonderful shots–good luck finding ‘b’s among them–they’re all ‘a’s.

//goes off to sulk in a corner with the weakstick entries he’s managed to capture…

Contest aside, these photos will last your lifetime with memories. Well done, and kudos//+1’s to all.

As for what to pick for the contest, GLWT.

I had to laugh really out loud. Gotta love the south! EVERYTHING under one roof!! Some guy named Walton built an empire with the same idea. (Yearning for an urning?–Shop Wal*Mart!)

Nice family pics. Are the blue eyes yours, or your wife’s? They do justice to the portrait shots of the kiddos, either way.
