ParticipantLiterally, a jib is a triangular sail at the very front of the sailboat (here for a picture)
Schnee was using jib figuratively, and was trying to say that he likes your style.

ParticipantNot until after I replace my 8-month-old 30D. =D
I’ll swap you a modern, self-cleaning, XTI (only 4 months old) for your 30D which is obviously an antique – I mean it is after all 8 months old…. 😆

ParticipantBeautiful shot.
There’s nothing to give any perspective of the height, how high would you say the falls are?

ParticipantSounds like quite a project, let me know if you need a hand testing it.

ParticipantI do. I got a Mac laptop shortly into the summer last year (I couldn’t take screwy computer lab computers at school anymore as my patience for them had run out). So I evaluated my position and bought a Mac Book Pro, though my desktop/gaming machine is still A PC running Windows XP.
Why? What’s on your mind?

ParticipantShooting outdoors with umbrellas (or softboxes or anything else on the stand) is going to require me to stabilize them a LOT more than I’ve been doing with the bare strobes.
Monsoon season in Arizona is a little unpredictable as far as the wind goes.
I know that heavy sandbags are a staple in portable stage lighting, they weigh anywhere from 10 to 35lbs each and have heavy duty straps so you can put them anywhere.
A quick check of B&H shows a large variety: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/shop/1373/Sandbags_Weight_Bags.html

ParticipantI found this video of a kid on youtube that got his fountain to go really high by using a tube to drop most of a pack of mentos in all at once.

This is best watched as a silent movie because of his irritating music.RcMacStudent
ParticipantAlright, I’m starting an official pool on how many posts have passed before we get a picture of a rice’d out Civic. I say 14.
/Winner of the pool gets a duplicate of the fabulous contest winner’s prize!
I’m gonna say 10. Because the peoples like to take the theme and run with it.

ParticipantOkay, I don’t want to be a complete idiot but I guess I have no choice. 😳
Scarification? Clarification, please. I mean aren’t all scars unintentional?
Specifically for me I am asking about scars from surgery.
In a word, no. A lot of traditional or tribal tattoo involves creating wounds which scar to form images or patterns. It’s basically a tattoo done without ink and with a deeper cut. Once it scabs, the scab is pulled off early to make the scar more pronounced. This is often repeated over and over to cover a large portion of the body. It’s a brutal process, but it can have beautiful results in some cases. Curious‘s link is a good example.
As for surgical scars, I would say no. I have a scar on my right leg where I had to have a large pin inserted when I broke it in 2002. I would not call that an intentional body mod.
I mentioned plastic surgery as a gray area because it is intentional and it is, technically, a body modification for (usually) superficial purposes a la tattoos or piercings. What do the rest of you think? Fair game or no?
Finally, does someone want to explain what “manscaping” is. Do I want to know?
I know that this is late in the game, but you might consider adding a difficulty of “must be intentional mods” because we do have a history of allowing a loose interpretation of the theme.
Either way it won’t affect me because I don’t normally run across many modded people (and I never see them when I have my camera). Maybe I’ll get lucky and find some at the junior college tomorrow…
If anyone still has questions about “manscaping” this site gives a fairly complete (and SFW) introduction to it.

ParticipantWhat I’ve noticed is that the pictures I’ve done with “save for web” in PS have been stripped of the EXIF data.
I think I read somewhere that the EXIF data was one of the things that caused the early versions of IE to crash, I assume that adobe got wise and removed the offending data so as to help keep people happy (even if it was a workaround and not a fix).

ParticipantI don’t mind if you use it. For me it was really just an exercise in lightening a photo where I can’t just tweak it as I read the RAW file.

ParticipantHow’s this look? I lightened the black and set the white point (in the curves tool) on the nose stud, and set the gray point on a grayish part of the tap. I then minimized the glow on the nose with the clone tool. Finally I used the despeckle filter to help reduce the noise that had popped up.

ParticipantI’d be interested in it.
