The lights are just a circle at the end of a road. You’re not supposed to drive inbetween them but who listens to that anyways. I never thought of throwing a hat over the tree’s light. I guess I’ll just have to go back over there with my buddy and his car to try a few more shots. I guess we can always go at 2am when nobody will be around now that the weather is getting chilly. I’ll have to try a few with the flash and double check and make sure that I’ve got the angle with the darkest background.

Here is the before and after shot when trying to simulate IR film.

I use the channel mixer in photoshop to boost the green to 200% and then the red and blues to make a total of 100% so the red and blue are in the negative which is usually red -20 blue -80 Click the monochrome button add some noise and you’re done. I’ve seen a very very similar shot done on IR film and it’s pretty close but the leaves aren’t as crisp white as they are on the IR film.

I still can’t get this whole HDR thing down. Still trying to figure out the curves. Here is a single RAW file with the method I just posted about. Along with the picture from the camera. I need read more about adjusting the curve when converting to 16 bit.

I split one Raw file in photoshop (may not be the right way but who knows. I open the raw file and photoshop asks me what the EV setting is. I put -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 and save each file individually (1-5) as a psd file. When I load these back up and choose HDR it brings up another window asking me what the EV values are I just put them back in because I named the files in order I can remember. Maybe this is right maybe it’s wrong who knows, but it got rid of that error.

I know what you mean about everything being photographed to death. There are 3 things that have been photographed around me. Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Choo-Choo. Can you guess where I am? There are mountains and some waterfalls around but I’m not all that good at the landscape stuff. Sometimes I drive around with the camera in hand for a few hours at a time looking for that obscure off the wall place that captures the area that hasn’t been over photographed. Another bad thing is one of the members of the car club I’m in was a photographer in this area for a long time as his primary income which means he’s already done the countless hours of driving and searching. There have been a few photos I’ve taken that I was kinda proud of until I showed him them and he said hey I got that shot and of course his always look better.

We need some rain here so they have to open the dam gates. Lots of water and water is very powerful.

in front of the car i see a patch of light, if you’d taken the pcture with the car in that light you could have shot with your lens open more

I thought about that but I was in the TN/NC mountains and I didn’t feel comfortable standing on the edge of a 200ft or so drop off. I’ll have to keep that in mind. More light, more practice. Why can they just load the professional photographer disk into me? Oh wait this isn’t the matrix, or is it?

That’s a neat trick to know and will probably use it because I’m always leaving my tripod at home next to the door.

I can’t keep page states because I’m too cheap to pay for hosting and use the space provided by work. At least I dont’ have any bandwith restrictions.

I can’t decide if I like my picture for this contest better in color or B&W. The stress these contests put on me is unbearable. 😆

Perhaps another farktographer was born last night 😀

That means another camera will have to be added to the household. There’s nothing worse than fighting over a camera. So get yourself a new one and since he’s new to it all he gets the hand me down. 🙂

I used a Sigma 70-300 in macro mode. It is nice to get the dust off. Maybe I’ll venture further than the boundries of my property (not big at all) and take more pictures later.

This is the lens I just got this week. Can’t wait to get to the track on Saturday and turn that bad boy loose.

I’ve used it for autocrosses. It let me stand back at a safe distance while still getting shots that looked like I was in mortal danger.
