ParticipantI suppose I’m weird, but I like stitched images where the rectangles don’t merge perfectly. In other words, if it’s perfect and could just be a crop from a bigger picture that’s not as interesting to me. But I have a high tolerance for chaos and like abstract art too. So your mileage may vary…
I absolutely agree with this. Some of my favorite panoramas, going way back to a National Geographic fold-out of hot air balloons in New Mexico when I was about 8, make me just about dizzy or disoriented in trying to figure them out.
Tonight’s skies are clear and there’s impressive fog floating around. I’m going to try to get up at 3:30 and get some night to dawn landscapes.

Participantsleeping, the other night I went through your entire farktography portfolio. Very very impressive work.

ParticipantCan you have a panoramic Macro?
absolutely.

ParticipantFlavivirus. dude. that is heroic. god i’d love to see that printed huge and all the detail that must be there.

ParticipantI know what you mean. I find myself often taking landscape shots with my 100-400mm lens and it occurs to me that there’s no adequate way to really show scale sometimes.

Participantthe people really add the perspective to that photo.

ParticipantI’ve got a friend here who is just crazy with the panoramics.
Found this one, too, that I had forgotten about.

I really want to try something curved and warped like Corsec has, though.

Participantsoosh, that’s a crazy pic. Almost monochrome on the left and that rainbow on the right give it a wierd discordance. I don’t know if I like the feeling or not. I will say that it’s better than anything I can do at this point. Smile
Isn’t it? I took all the shots handheld, and quickly, before it all disappeared. From the area by the rainbow to the furthest back on the glacier is about 8 miles or so. It’s an odd viewpoint further compressed by the lens.

Participantor even leave more of the shot in to the left, but bring the right edge in closer to the edge of the falls, maybe.

ParticipantI think you could go quite a bit tighter on the crop.

Participantthis is the only pano i’ve done so far
It got all grainy, though, and I’m not sure how that happened.

Participantthat’s pretty cool, corsec.

ParticipantWhatever happened to a good old bucket of saltpeter and charcoal?
Isn’t that just gunpowder? Last thing I need is ATF after my ass.
That carbide lamp is a good idea. going to have to look into that.

Participantno, they wouldn’t be safe at all in a dry forest environment. I’m in a rain forest. I use a galvanized steel bucket with sand in the bottom to hold the flares to keep from scarring the moss, and I carry a fire extinguisher with me. If the area I’m in is rocky, I don’t necessarily bother with the bucket.
Seriously, don’t go burning down any forests. But the flares are fairly contained, for all the light they put out. I’ve never had one go out of control.
I looked at Western Auto for handheld flares, but all I could find were ones that were for flare guns, not handheld. I’ll look further.
