    I think so, too.

“snip” But I also like the challenge of keeping that lens on all day and forcing myself to frame with it. I think I’ve grown a lot from making myself do that.

I think I need to do that more. I tend to switch lenses if I am not happy immediately with what I am seeing through the view finder. I love my f1.8 50mm lens but I don’t think I use it enough.

It forces you into a perspective. You only have a box ‘this big’ to play with, and you have to figure out new ways of looking at the same old stuff. I find I carry that back into the telephoto lenses too, and I think it’s helped me work around the limitations of whatever I have on the camera at the time.

I’m just getting ready to head off to the mining ruins right now. I’ve been playing around with a macro setup of two enlarging lenses (one at a time) on an old vivitar bellows macro rail coupled to my dSLR that seems to be pretty damned amazing, from my test shots around the house.

Oooh. Cool. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the results.

I just started a new topic to show a couple of test shots I made hand-held yesterday.

I’ve got really funky eyes; eye doctors call in their colleagues to come take a look when I’m in the office. I can be corrected from 20/400 to 20/15 and have very acute macro type vision, but sorta mid-distance is, now that I’m thinking about it, my worst range for focus. I wonder if that might not have something to do with feeling like a 50mm lens is always either not long enough or isn’t wide enough.

Somehow, I seem to shoot almost nothing at 50mm. It just feels like a really awkward focal length to me.

I’m all for the sidebar recognition, but don’t care so much about the prizes. I think a link to the FSM somewhere on the main page would be cool, too.

A month of free TF for the winner each week might be a cool enough nod that doesn’t make people go all crazy trying to rack up votes.

I think he might have been a wrestler. He would have graduated 86 or 87. I didn’t know him past about 10 years old.

I might submit this panorama but I’m really not sure of what the fark-sized image would look like. Could I do a crop that pops to a full-sized much wider than the crop?

We did a contest of three before where all three shots went into one entry, and people only got one entry in the contest.

What if we did it the same way in this one? You get one entry. In it are as many of the 4 different elements you want to have, maximum of 4 photos. You only want to do one or two? That’s fine. Might hurt you in voting, but that’s your choice.

Yes, I graduated Memorial in 1987. Did she know Michael McVay at all? He was my brother, graduated in 1984. He was mostly a musician (classical piano & trumpet in orchestra and jazz band).

Did you know a guy named Brad Priest out in Bixby? We were friends in Elementary and he and his parents moved out to a farm there in the mid-70s.

That was awesome work, CauseISaidSo. If I have some time this weekend, I was thinking of trying to assemble as whole of an alphabet as possible from the entries.

And thanks for using my A!

side note: what part of Tulsa do you live and and how long have you been there? Have I asked you this before? I grew up in Tulsa from 1970 until moving to Alaska in 1997, with a couple of years in college at OSU and OU.

I have always taken photos of my kids parties and posted them online. If you wanted, you could let people know about it beforehand and offer to not publicly post pictures of their kids if they don’t agree. Or have a sheet at the party where people can put their email address, and you can let them know where the pictures are.

If you offend somebody by posting their kid online, well, frankly, I wouldn’t consider that kind of a person that much of a loss. But by being upfront about it, you can’t be accused of not giving them fair warning as to if they wanted to participate.

I’ll never forget the look of worry and concern on a mom & dad when their son opened the gift my son had been really happy about picking out for him. It was an army jeep and a couple of GI Joes in fatigues. My kid was going through a big stage where he thought army men were cool. The parents recoiled like we’d given the kid bourbon and lucky strikes.

My only advice to the new moderators is rule through terror. Good luck, hire reliable henchmen.

In declining to moderate, I mentioned that my moderation style was probably a lot more Lord of the Flies than this place should have to tolerate.
