ParticipantI second the Pentax DSLR. I have a older *istDS and its great. You can use AA batteries in a pinch (except for the K10) and there’s lots of lenses.
With a screw mount to kmount adaptor, you can use the older lenses. I have used everything from modern lenses to screw mount bellows to russian Zenit lenses.
Lots of variety and cheap used glass.
poke around http://www.saracom and the links and I have quite a few pics I shot with it.

Participantdgough,
congrats on the new toy and yea another Pentax user. I have a *istDS. I also have quite a few lenses. Mostly old ones.
Nice thing about Pentax, they didn’t change the mount much and even the screw mount lenses work with the newest
cameras with a simple adapter. I have put a 1960s Russian lens on mine with excellent results. There is a menu setting you
have to change before the camera will let you use a fully manual lens.have fun

ParticipantJust an update for the C-41 film. Talked to a few people and did research etc. Least according to a trusted photographer I know, she states it didn’t really matter where it was developed, just as long as the chemicals, machine etc was up to snuff. Now the hard part would be the printing. Most people end up printing them in BW. I also read that if you pushed the film a stop, it could help the contrast. Unfortunately, the last local lab that did that closed.
Any we tried 1 roll and NOTHING. Mostly likely it was never exposed. Either it got rewound by accident, missloaded or the shutter was broken.
Also apparently, Ektachrome does not load the image for long. I was told it was not worth my while to bother. But I sent it off for standard processing anyway.
I will try the other rolls later just incase. One question is I could try just developing them as bw to start with. C-41 will develop in standard chemicals. That would eliminate the bleach process step.

ParticipantIt’s actually C-41 process for the Kodacolor II, just old film. Rocky Mountain seems a bit slow and pricey. Would be a bummer if it was my old attempts at photography and I pay $30 per roll of badly exposed film. I hate to trust this to a 1 hour place, perhaps I should try Murphy’s Camera here in Lexington.

Participantmillera9,
cool, glad you liked. it has been a learning experience. the full moon is from my first attempt. a tad out of focus and needed maybe an additional stop. the partial is from Saturday. I spent about an hour trying an eyepiece projection photography of Saturn and gave up and went for the moon. I need to get a better tripod. The current one is out of the trash from work. I am working on making one out of home made wood legs and a top section from work.

Participantit’s that little ?v=0 tag after the .jpg, I just tried it in the scratchpad and without that it works fine.
Cool, thanks. Not sure why Flickr puts the ?v=0 in the URL

OK, what am I doing wrong? The pics won’t display

ParticipantWell, I went ahead and ordered the Celestron spotting scope. I will let everyone know how it turns out. Another reason for getting a big lens is I have a photosniper which I used to love to use but it attracted way too much attention and with today’s climate, I did not feel it would be worth adapting to my DSLR

ParticipantJust got new Kodak gray cards. They changed the women! New poll?
stupido
ParticipantThe gray cards I get from Penn don’t have pictures of anybody. 😥
You need the Kodak ones then instead of the evil Penn.

ParticipantA different scan.

View of the front. I can’t find an online view of the back.

ParticipantWould pics from some other Eastern Block camera be OK? I am thinking of my photosniper and FED.

ParticipantSome people claim tubes give a better image than a closeup lens. Me, I’m not so sure, but I’ve never done a direct comparison. The tube modifies the focal plane which the lens is optimized to use. A well-made closeup lens (two or more elements, multicoated, &c) also modifies the focal plane. Tomato, tomato, I expect.
I have used both. I guess it depends on how close you want to get. For field use, the close up lens are the best choice. For studio work, I prefer to use the tubes if it would otherwise require me to use more than one close-up lens. I just don’t like stacking the lenses. Adds too many optical surfaces.
stupido
ParticipantMight be a bit difficult with the close up filter. I would go with an extension tube so that you don’t risk messing up the lens with tape.
I like the urinals!
Which mount do you have?
