I’ve spent the past few weekend out shooting the local “semi-pro” baseball team. I have a few that I like but I can’t decide on, an outside opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I think your first one’s best.

The third one’s nice, but you should ask Yzzie to adjust the hue so it’s less blue.

The equestrian shots in your stream are nice, and that ice boat one’s going to do really well.

do shots of the spectators count…without them it’s kinda dull & pointless, right?

also, how, bout the trappings of a sporting event – things that are part of the sport, but not actually in the contest?

The too blue one is a direct result of not paying attention to the camera settings. It would be been a great photo if not for that. I also tend to no play around in photoshop with the pics, mostly due to ignorance of the process.

The plan is/was to have one baseball, one horse and the ice canoe.

Uranus yes as long as it’s obvious the spectators are there for a sport and not, say, a concert in the park. Sports equipment/setup stuff is fine.

I’m with QueenBee and ravnostic, really did some deep searching to come up with meager photos. Oh, well, haven’t been doing well for some time now, guess this will be another week of less that good pics. I do have some ideas for the “Portals” theme that may lift my standing a little. But again, who knows.

I happen to know you’ve got a wife who’s darn good at that sort of thing and would (probably) be more than happy to help you at least do some minor recoloring.

If it wasn’t for Photoshop, I’d have even worse stats than I do. (I made the mistake the other day of looking at my Bibliostats profile… bleah!) I know better than to do heavy post-processing, but I like to bump the saturation and play a smidge with the levels prior to posting. Occasionally the contrast needs a bit of play. I haven’t had to do much in the way of adjusting the hue, but if I had a shot like you’ve got, I’d do it.

At least you’ve still got that first one to go with. I spent 2 days at Bills training camp. Shot over 500 pics, and wound up with a grand total of 10 to choose from, and even then the choice was pretty easy… I need a longer telephoto lens… (don’t tell my wife I said that… it’s gonna be a very long time before that happens).

Well, I managed to pare it down to 17 choices. I’m likely suffering from proud dad bias on several, so independent opinions would be appreciated if you’ve got the time. Candidates are here. TIA.

The last one Walter Iooss Jr. would be proud of. It should be in the front part of SI in the “Leading Off” gallery.

Might be toeing the line here, but where would rockclimbing stand? Seems pretty sporty to me, but it’s not exactly competitive (except against yourself and the mountain). Wikipedia defines it as a sport, but don’t know where this contest would put it.

I’d think it would be ok. It’s certainly athletic.

    //8840–OMG!! Did he survive?
    That last–**win**

Yes indeed, he did survive. Wasn’t even seriously hurt and was in for the next play. That’s the problem with 7-8th grade football – you’ve got a wiiiide range of physical maturity amongst the boys leading to a lot of size mismatches (like the one in 1225 – that’s my son on the right; the other kid looks to me like he’s thinking, “Are you serious?”). And thanks much for the kudos, rav, you’re very kind.

Wow, thanks very much! I’m also honored to have been the subject of your first post, so welcome to the forums, even though I see that you joined back in January. I didn’t find the username “stanleyd” in my stats – do you post your entries under another name? Either way, again, welcome!

Well, looks like I’ve got one selection narrowed down at least. Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

I think the first three are great action shots, but I agree with Yugoboy about the third – you need to “de-blue” it.
