ParticipantI kinda got distracted and almost forgot today was Wednesday.
Ditto, that’s why I have a recurring calendar reminder setup on the phone to go off quarter till 7 each Wed. evening.

ParticipantCISS, might as well change that to “must-have-nows” 😉

Needless to say, I’m more than a bit smitten with it.

ParticipantJust a couple more…

Participant+1 on thinking of a Macro as a damned good prime lens that can also focus really damned close.

ParticipantSucks to hear that the D80’s battery is so difficult to replace. Wonder what led to that design, couldn’t imagine that one engineer could slip such a poorly thought out solution through unless cost, space, or something else was a driving factor. Look forward to seeing your pics from both cameras soon.

ParticipantAll good pics Pickerel, I’d go with:

ParticipantRight now I’ve got one of Seattle, one of Newport, Oregon (mostly the harbor and Yaquina Bay Bridge with one of the canneries and such), and debating between one of Mineral Wells, Tx (90% is one building, the Baker Hotel). Not sure how each will play with the voters, but best I’ll likely be able to do given my schedule this week.

ParticipantI’m in much the same boat rav. My only really good skyline is that of Seattle from a harbor tour I did a couple years back. Beyond that all my other options are stretching the definition of skyline just a tad. May try to find a free evening later this week to head down into Dallas proper to find somewhere to get a shot of the skyline there.

Participant“Are those railroad tracks?!?”
Indeed they are (or were!) Now long out of service, and many Texas summer days have warped the tracks along this stretch.

ParticipantI’d say any image that shows strong “lines” to a vanishing point would be within the bounds of the contest.
This image has a lot of depth, but no recognizable visual vanishing point:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ATX2i-8GrAM/UDFJcq3DkTI/AAAAAAAAJGQ/yGepmCkzu44/s1024/IMG_6418.jpgAs far as the river gorge goes, as long as it has a the feeling of a vanishing point vs just a narrowing of the gorge, you certainly wouldn’t lose my vote even if the point is “semi-obvious”. I am trying to stay away from the typical long straight road shots, which isn’t too difficult as I don’t have many decent shots of that sort.

ParticipantTrying to narrow down my picks for this one. Can I get some input on a couple:

ParticipantI really need to get a light box setup for stuff like my shots this week.
You and me both.

Participantorionid, I’d considered a similar idea, but must say your shot is infinitely better executed.

ParticipantOne of my possibilities after playing with the camera a bit tonight after burning out on processing landscapes from my trip last week.

Had to go sepia/b&w on this, the wood stain I used on my work bench is great to work at, but way too red/orange for using as a back drop in photos for most subjects. -
