ParticipantI’m in the same boat, but I know I’ll be going custom again as I’ve been building my own since the Pentium II days. I’ll say that the new Dells around the office have been nothing but problems (mostly hard drives), while the old HP I’m currently dealing with (I opted not to upgrade at the time the rest of the team got the Dells) has been rock solid. On the flip side, I hear nothing but horror stories from people I know who work for HP, and the last HP laptop I had was a PITA.

ParticipantI believe the 85mm is the same as my dad has for his Nikkomat 35mm, and have seen some portraits my dad did of me as a 3-4 year old with it. Very nice glass. I expressed interest in acquiring the camera, 85mm and the Nikon 300mm from him since it’s probably been 15+ years since he’s last used any of it. I did buy a EOS-Nikon adapter to see how the two play with my XSi. Sad that it’s harder to get old Nikon glass on new Nikon bodies than a Canon body.

ParticipantSearch functionality seems to be the bane of all web forums. I help admin a large cycling forum running vBulletin and it seems like search has never worked right through countless versions of the software. I gave up and usually use google and site: to get good results.
The software geek in would say the root problem is that the software is trying to insert a search record with the same unique identifier as one that already exists, of course, this is the “well no shit Sherlock” answer, but doesn’t help discovering WHY it is trying to do this. It is, however, why I use GUIDs and not auto-incremental integers for nearly all of my identifier fields.

Participantscalps?
Something like that. So it appears, apples aren’t always on the losing end. I really like the shot, but didn’t seem to express the theme well enough.

ParticipantMy three entries are locked and loaded, ready for Wed night. In the end, going with three from my main series of photos, but wanted to share one of my early snaps that I liked as a little last minute inspiration, while not giving away my battle scene.
Lots of potential captions for this too, but haven’t came up with just the right one, so for now I call it “Apples wearing orange leaves”

One of my favorites from a recent update to the “Parks & Nature” album linked in the original post. Yes, more than a little modification in Lightroom on this one. The original was quite uninspiring.Barracuda
ParticipantI’ve got the ideas, just hope I can pull them off.
//disclaimer: all entries of mine will likely be posed and do not reflect my current state of mind.

ParticipantBeen waiting to ask when this one came up in queue: are Parking Garages valid if the photo is from the inside the garage, of said garage?

ParticipantThrew one photo into the mix that should cover the requirements (at least as good as some others in the thread). Taken at NAHBS last year in Austin, he was on the ride with me, but hell if I can remember his name now and never met him before/after then. Tweaked in Lightroom (B&W creative Look 3, punch, crop, returned the faintest amount of saturation back in to complete the look).
Time for shut eye, then to work to vote for this week, consider next week’s picks, and scheme for weeks to come.

ParticipantMuahahaha, time to go raid the parent’s attic for my lego stash.

ParticipantWoot. Thank you for the update. 🙂

ParticipantCongrats to U-man, wished I’d gotten half as nice of photos around Tahoe when I was there last year. My few photos on the lake were with my old canon Elph while on a fishing trip and the morning haze + far too high of ISO or something made for strange results. A top 20 finish is a victory in my book so I’m happy with my best result this past week.

ParticipantSooooo… what’s up next (doc)? I’ve got ideas for a number of the hoppered themes, just want to start brain storming if needed for a theme post AvO II.

ParticipantShot my Apples v Oranges last night, first time shooting in RAW for the specific purpose of fine tuning the photos in Lightroom. Of the 55 or so photos taken, already whittled the candidates down to a half dozen or so.

Participant^ ^ I wear prescription sunglasses, then again, that alone may make for an interesting look, but probably not. Bought a Hoya DMC PRO1 UV filter and Marumi DHG Super Circular Polarizer, going to go play in the woods and by the lake with the Polarizer as soon as I get a chance. ND’s will have to wait till later this year.
