Well, the Dolcia was out of stock (both 63 & 60″ versions) and after some more research, decided to go with the Davis & Sanford Voyager Lite with BHQ8 Ball Head that Plamadude30k suggested. Looks to fold down to a slightly shorter length, so we’ll see how I like it when it arrives. Good suggestion fluffybunny on the monopod / walking stick. I may look around for a small ball head and build one for myself.

Yeah, I’m a software guy. Day job is ASP.NET / SQL2005. My other main hobby is cycling, and run a fairly large vintage cycling website: VeloBase.com which is an online database of vintage cycling components and other information for reference purposes. It’s also ASP.NET / SQL, and was started as a training exercise for me while I was still on the old VB6 product at work.

I’ve got 2 of my 3 down stone cold. Still debating on if I should try to get something new into the mix, or stick to the archives on this one since Dallas is more than a stones throw from anything inspiring. (that’s all the rock related puns I could come up with – maybe after drink or two…)

For “all automatic” you’ve managed a nice assortment of photos there. Look forward to seeing what you are able to get with this new camera.

For the record, I’m in the north east suburbs, on the edge of “rural” land, Allen to be exact.

I know stuck in some closet somewhere at my parent’s house there is a large, heavy tripod that my dad used on his video recorder (circa 1985) that I am going to try to relieve him of along with his nikkormat ftn when I see him next. Thus, this purchase is more along the travel tripod needs. Something I’ll actually take with me on hikes / walks / etc. And then I’ll hope that the heavy unit my dad’s got will be just the ticket if I want to start doing very long exposure shots.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Dolica GX650B204 Proline GX Series 65 inch

Bumping this thread instead of starting a fresh one:

Long story short, my crap-o-matic $20ish dollar tripod I bought many many moons ago did the inevitable – broke. Tried twice to glue the nut for the screw that tightens down the head’s rotation – no go. And I wasn’t all that keen on setting up my new camera on top of that thing anyways. Difficulty is budget right now. I’ve blown far too much $$$ on camera stuff in this newest hobby of mine (why oh why do I pick the expensive hobbies?) while still having a very large bill looming for another one of my hobbies in the next couple months. I’d like to stay sub $100 at most, $60-$80 if I can help it. I’m fine with a pan head, if I really need a ball head for a project I’ll beg my coworker for his uber version.

    Thanks in advance!

Malivon, welcome to the newb club, I’m in much the same boat. Enjoy taking photos, fallen in and out of the habit over the years. And against my better judgement (I have other expensive hobbies as it is) went out and spent the coin on a DSLR so making myself learn how to use it and actually use it regularly.

Kestrana, Elsinore removed the avatar for me. Not sure what the deal was. *shrug* – computers, I know better than to doubt the insanity of those who write code for them as that’s my day job.

Don’t use G+, but most of my photography is currently going up into Picasa web album(s).

    …. nope.

😆 Oh, don’t do it because of what I said, it’s funny along with being weird.

It wasn’t because of what you said, it really was creeping me out too!

Good points Kestrana. I plan to stick around! (as if I need yet another place to kill time on the interwebs…)

To be fair, two of my three entries were taken over the summer during my vacation to Tahoe (when I bought the first of my two newer cameras). Generally a more photographic place than north Texas, but that’ll just mean I have to become a better photographer to bring out the best of the theme and subjects at hand. Also, some of my older shots that I really like, I couldn’t recall if I’d tweaked or not, so to be fair to the theme I selected photos I knew hadn’t been altered beyond the beer-fog in my memory.

Great photos all, it’s going to make me step up my game. I need to hit the streets for a monthly photography contest on another forum that I frequent, and also in hopes of getting some material for “Strange”.

Thank you Elsinore. I’ve bought two new cameras in the last eight months so figured I’d best get some use out of them both. Not a lot of good SOOC’s during tonight’s jaunt around town, but hopefully a few I can use in the future.

Well, I remembered to enable voting on 2 of my 3 entries. Not bad for a Farktography newb. *roll eyes at self*
