ParticipantAnd so on this, my 100th contest, my string of max entries is broken. Without time to shoot new, I could only come up with one entry this week. If Farktographer ever returns, he’ll have something to shoot for now.
// It’s actually kind of a relief. 😕

ParticipantThanks much, Els. She’s sore but otherwise doing great. The surgeon used robotic laparoscopy, so while previously she would’ve been in the hospital for 2 days, instead she was back home less than 6 hours post-surgery. Ain’t modern medicine amazing?!

ParticipantMan, I wanted to do a mixed night/day shot, but I don’t know if mine will work or not. Computer is crunching….crunching…crunching…
Hope it works out; I’d like to see that.
One of my ideas for this theme was one of those “time slices” where multiple shots of the same scene are taken over the course of a day and then a slice of each is stiched together. But my wife had surgery Monday and between that and other business-related stuff I didn’t get a chance to shoot anything new. I think I’ve got a couple of possibilities in the archives. I’ll know shortly…
swampa, when you get your night/day shots mixed to your satisfaction, please post!

ParticipantSome B’s
Eiffel Tower during the day
(I was tempted to enter this and the night time version to see if people liked one over the other but my love of night shots won out)I like that one. Did you try mixing the day and night shots into a single stitch? I’ve seen a few like that that turned out pretty cool.

ParticipantFirst time for me. does one just post the entry in this thread?
Hey, leedav, welcome!
I was just typing a response, but it seems that swampa and rav have beat me to it. The only thing I’d add is that you can find a list of FAQs about the contest here: http://www.fark.com/farq/farktography/.

ParticipantMy taste buds say “Sign me up!” but my waistline says “Gimme a break, will ya?!?” My mother-in-law does something similar with cookies this time of year, so I really don’t need any extra sweets. Awfully nice of you both to offer, though, so I just wanted to say thanks!

ParticipantGot yours OBO’d
Oops. I had it setup for autoposting. Can you please delete my version? TIA.
My lame entries also seem incongruent with everyone else’s so feel free to axe them also if you think they’re outside of the theme.

ParticipantIf nobody TF responds, I’ll OBO for you, Yugoboy.
And I empathize with you. I came down with the worst sore throat that I can remember last Monday night (which is why I skipped last week). It transformed into a sinus infection and I’m still fighting with it this week.
Which partly explains (in conjunction with having to help my youngest with Alg II homework last night) why I had to archive dive this week. Thought I was going to have to skip altogether but then remembered these hopefully-in-the-spirit-of-the-theme entries.

ParticipantYugo and ennui, if it helps, remember the “paranormal” part of the theme which would include ghosts and apparitions. No need for props there necessarily.
I’m hoping to get time to get a couple of entries for this one, but I’ve got several things going on so I’ll have to play it by ear.

Participantrav, that link just shows the number of people googling “fark.com”. At this point in time, I’d guess most people with a propensity to visit Fark already know what it’s about and where to find it, so I’m not surprised to see the big drop there.
The more relevant stats can be found here: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/fark.com#

Unfortunately, they only cover 2 years, but it looks like traffic has dropped to about 1/2 of what it was 2 years ago and by 10% in the last 3 months.
This shows in my stats as well. Here are the current graphs as of last Sunday (SQ=Sliding Quarter, SY=Sliding Year):
Both quarterly and yearly voting averages are at their lowest point ever. 🙁

ParticipantIn Utah, you really can’t go wrong with any of the parks. Zion, Bryce, Arches, Royal Gorge, etc. I don’t know how close you’ll be to it in Wyoming, but of course Yellowstone is there. While in Vegas, you’ll probably want to see the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. If you come back on I40 East, there’s Meteor Crater near Winslow, AZ and the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest Natl Park not far from there.
If you take I40 to OKC on the way back, gimme a shout. Depending on your schedule and mine, I might be able to meet you there for a beer or two if you’re up for it. Heck, if for some reason you want to see Tulsa, I’d put you up for a night here.

ParticipantWith all the recent advances in photography and imaging technology, when are we going to start seeing color photos of the moon? 🙄
(Kidding, of course – just repeating a much-mocked question I saw someone on the interwebs ask a couple of weeks ago.)
Seriously, that’s an awesome composition, rav. It’s really cool to see the ejecta patterns around the craters. One can almost imagine the rock impacting the surface.

ParticipantCongrats to Pope Larry for the individual win and to U-Man for the combined win.
Not to denigrate your win at all, Pope, but personally, I liked your 3rd place entry better – it looks to me like a diagram of electron paths around a nucleus.

ParticipantAren’t sleeping and linguine thereabouts as well?
Good luck to all of you potentially affected.

ParticipantI had a couple of what I thought were decent ideas, but ran out of time to implement them to my satisfaction. One of these days, I’m going to start prepping for contests more than a couple of days before go-time (although I rarely get to dictate my schedule; it’s usually the other way around). Anyway, unless the heavens part and divine inspiration strikes, I’ll be sitting this one out. Ought to be a fun contest, though.
