I wound up with 7 possible entries for this one. Turns out I like cropping images, who knew? My immediate thought was to post the ones I didn’t pick here. But I’m not sure that you all want all people’s “extra” entries posted here each week, so I wanted to ask. Is this the proper place for entries that didn’t make the cut? Or would it be better to post them on “The Gallery” for comment? And BTW, my skin is very thick, so “keep them to yourself if they aren’t good enough to submit, bub!” is a perfectly acceptable reply. 🙂

Ugh! Nice typo there… I meant “get a TF membership” of course.

Re: early entry… Check the FSM for a given contest to see how the votes flow in. For this one there were more votes cast the first hour it was up than any other. I suspect that true most of the time. So it’s advisable to get your postings in before the contest goes up on the Fark headlines (meaning get a T membership).

I agree with corsec67 on both points. Allowing rotation and flipping creates a lots of interesting possibilities, especially if you want to go for an “oh wow, I won’t have thought of that” reaction. Which leads to the second point nicely. 🙂 The example posted of the guy jumping from rock to rock over what appears to be a deadly drop into a canyon is pretty compelling. I’d love to see photos that go for that sort of “mis-leading” interpretation of the original. But it’s also a VERY high bar, so I’m not sure I have anything that qualifies. The other sorts of cropping, to highlight things you don’t see clearly in the original, or leaving out details that obscure the original perspective in amusing ways seem easier to find to me.

I’m looking forward to seeing what people come up with for this one!

I had one too many entries this time and had to drop one. My SO picked this one, which ironically was my favorite… So I’m posting it here for the hell of it.

Elsinore, thanks for the moderator-mojo to fix up my newbie mistake. 🙂

I know the solution here is to become a TF’er so I can post earlier. So I’ll get that done shortly. But I wanted to say thanks for the kind words on the Fark thread in the meantime!

Sending out “I don’t like the holidays” cards are the perfect way to vent your frustration if you ask me. 🙂 I have one like that which I bought in Baltimore in the 80’s. I loved it so much I couldn’t send it though. It’s still stashed away in a box of “office supplies” in my basement somewhere.

This is a fantastic theme! I’m going to have fun scouring my photos for something that works…

When I read the description of the contest I thought is was “beauty in something which is simple/uncomplicated” and was headed in that direction. Now I gather it’s really “beauty in something normally considered plain”, which seems pretty different. I think I can still reconcile the photos I’ve been working on, but I’m not 100% certain the two ideas are close enough. I might post the photos here for feedback before posting in the contest, so thanks for clarifying that we could do that. I’d hate to burn a photo I can’t use again because I misread the theme. 🙂
