ParticipantI just went to see if anybody was even looking at my pictures on flickr and it told me connection refused.? Won’t even let me log in. But for now they seem to be still showing up on Fark.
Same issue here. Photos are holding steady on Fark, but can’t get into the flickr site. Their blog says it’ll be fixed in a few minutes. Given, they said that about an hour ago…

ParticipantBy complete chance I ran across what looks to be a dupe. bastian_74’s entry appears to have been previously used in “Hope” and “Can I Get A Show Of Hands?”. File numbers don’t match, crop is slightly different, but wanted to bring it up.
I thought that one looked familiar, but I can’t get a 100% verification that it’s a dupe. The file from this week’s contest has a timestamp of Feb 22, 2012, but no other EXIF data, and the one from “Hope” has no EXIF at all. It’s possible that it’s two consecutive frames. I did stack them in GIMP, it looks like they align pretty closely (though not exactly, owing to a pixel or two crop). If it were just the razor blade, that wouldn’t mean much, but I’d think it would be difficult to get the hand in the exact same place within the bumpy texture of the counter from one frame to the next, and you can line up all those bumps and the reflection with the same reflection. Still, I think I’ll ask in thread before pulling it just in case…
Yeah I would bet my point n shoot they are the same picture with different editing to make them slightly different. the hand is in as near as I can tell exactly the same position.
Same setup, same hand positioning, same lighting for 3 photos out of only a handful of contests? Okay, I’m voting this one’s a Scarlet R. Seems way too unlikely. Shame – I really liked it for this theme, but didn’t even realize it’s been used (twice!) before.

ParticipantI *have* noticed that taller photos tend to get more votes. Strange psyche, these farkers.
Actually I think that’s mostly down to simple geometry – a 640x900px image has a lot more impact than a 640×400 one because it’s more than double the area.
I tend to forget that not everyone clicks to see the larger images =P

/eta – for that shot, I actually did try to crop it several times. Nothing felt “right” though for the mood of the shot except as-is. Sacrificed votes for artistic leeway, perhaps? 😛

ParticipantI always get so confused by these voters. My shot I had picked as my favourite (Craven) and most likely to get votes is holding a miserable 1 right now. I figured it was a good balance of darkness/fear with the crouching in the corner and the shadow, but meh. Anyone have some potential criticism they could share with me? Because otherwise I have a confused.

ParticipantI’d say even the “medium topaz” ones you posted are too much for my taste, orionid. When I see photos that have been clearly touched to HDR-ish levels, I can understand why they are submittable, but I don’t tend to vote for them. That being said, I haven’t run across it too often in our contests.

ParticipantEnnui – love the idea of “shooting” in the bathtub with a camera. Great concept.
Thanks, I wanted to provide the impression of violence without the actual…you know…violence. Also, I do not own any firearms and even if I did, I couldn’t bring myself to ever point it at my person in such a manner…even if I cleared them fifty times before doing it.
/very much a believer in the never point at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
In both photography and weapons 😉

I have 4 in mind:
Taking Time: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/6921630805/
Craven: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/6921640053/
The Smoking Man: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/6775525666/
Standing Man: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/6775525778/Any suggestion on which of those 3 might be weak? Or if I’m discounting one of my other shots too early?

My roommate and I used to blare that in the house. Good times, haha.

ParticipantThat’s where it becomes so important to use the old-fashioned lenses where you can control aperture on the lens itself. It’d suck to try this conversion now where you’d be stuck with the highest f-stop on the lens.

ParticipantGaaaah, got the shots done, now for a fast walk-through, image selection, and edit. Got my inception soundtrack playing to set the dark mood…Frank Sinatra has too many happy songs to keep me in the mood 😉

ParticipantHeretic! Sacrilege! How DARE you put a holy Nikon lens on a Canon mount? Your punishment is that you must now send me the lens. I’ll put it to good use 😉
Those are some purdy pictures, though. How did you transform the base to get it to fit?

ParticipantArgh, this one’s going to be super last-minute for me. I have 3 outdoor locations scouted out, sketches done, lighting pre-set, but I need a model for the angles I’m going for, and my friend backed out last-minute today. Hoping I can find someone tomorrow, but it’s supposed to rain :-(. I have 3 fall-back ideas, but I was really looking forward to doing something amazing for this one.
