    We are 😆

On that note….it just struck me that the description says one letter per photo. Does that mean multiples of the same letter are out? I hadn’t considered that and would have thought as long as it was just one letter (even if multiple instances), it would be fine.

I interpreted that as multiples of the same letter are in, but you can only have one type of letter per picture – i.e. V’s and A’s together. If this is wrong, clarification would be good fast b/c that cancels one of my expected entries 😯

So Im trying to pick something for my 3rd photo, does anyone think something like this might be a good fit for this week http://www.flickr.com/photos/guine/5593619559/

    I’d vote for that.

    Yeah, that’s a strong entry

If you’re able to do it such that it looks like you did it with a camera (I’d say no more than +2 EV), then perhaps? I’d be worried that’s getting a little too dependent on the software instead of the photo, though.

This theme seems pretty broad – am I right in assuming that? What’s artsy-fartsy to one person might not be so artsy to another. I’m just wondering whether the composition of a photo that I consider to be “artsy” is enough to warrant submission to this contest. It’s always hard to tell when you throw abstract into the mix 😆

They let me get away with a picture of stuffed animal dogs playing poker for the artistic bent contest so I have trouble seeing anything that doesn’t break the regular rules being disqualified.

I am half drunk – after dark, fark, etc… – so excuse me if I miss your point. I have a couple off the top of my head that I would think meet the theme. Basically it is light being bent through things, one of which is a very clear icicle bending all of the rocks behind it through as a reflection.

The other is a straight picture of my wife. I am pretty sure Picasso used her ancestors as models. Eyes, tits, noses all over the place. But she is the most awesome person in the world! 😉

I’m interpreting this as each photographer deciding for themselves what’s artsy-fartsy, and then letting the voters decide.

These things fascinate me because I really don’t understand them too well. I’m going to have to do some pinhole research when I find some spare time. Awesome photographs!

Yeah, the first 2 shots are turning out real blocky to me, too. I love the 70’s sitcom effect of blurring everything on the edges 🙂

Thanks, Kestrana and rav. I agree, it’d be interesting to submit some things, even if I don’t expect to win – you never know what the judges might be looking for.

Still being a fledgling photographer, can someone tell me how you’re getting your photos published? I know my photos aren’t nearly the needed quality right now, but still, a guy can dream 😀

Do you just post these things on flickr and wait for someone to contact you? I saw they also have the Getty Images submissions – did you do it through that? And how about finding contests, like the one kashari won with her horse photos? Doing searches on the interwebs only brought up massive numbers of sites promising to host your images for a low-low fee until you become super famous.

I’m figuring based off the description it’s strictly pre-processing. Orionid would have to clarify it, though.

Thanks for the tips, Elsinore and Kestrana. I’ll be fiddling around with Flickr and figuring it out with your suggestions 🙂

Or, just buy a $12 domain from godaddy, and use the free hosting account for posting your images. //sayin’

    Or that 😆

side question – I’m using flickr to host my images, and when I tried to post the first upload of one of my pictures (this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/5575932758/ ), I couldn’t post on the fark thread because it was too large. I then resized it on photoshop, posted it again, and it still wouldn’t post to the size I wanted – I had to downgrade it (from medium-large to just medium).

My question is – how do you get the large-sized pictures posted, like U-man’s “Three Smashed Girls.” or Kestrana’s “Chihuly Glass Walkway”? Do you just sacrifice image quality to increase the size? I feel the bottle’s smashing into dust is lost on a smaller scale in my picture.
