ParticipantI always vote for my own shots. If I didn’t feel they were worth a vote, why put them out there?
Exactly. Plus, the FSM doesn’t see a pic unless it has at least one vote, or something like that. So, I always vote for mine first. I’ll come back later and vote for other deserving entries.
I vote for my own pictures for the same reasons, but I do all my voting at the same time: Saturday. The latest of late players gets a chance at my vote, I (or they) don’t need to rely on remembering to go back and see if anyone else came along and submitted a picture.
Also, that means that by the time I vote, that’s pretty much all the votes I’m going to get. Not 100% of the time, but usually, I can feel a sense of closure at that point lol.
ETA: Kestrana: Me neither. I can’t ever see the pictures in the dots either.

ParticipantApparently my enjoyment of photographing dead things is wrong after all. Not a single vote 😯 Usually I can manage to gather one vote for each of my pix by thursday morning.
I’m with Corsec. Does that mean I win or fail at this contest? 😛 And Corsec, I’m sure you’ve noticed the sig line I’ve had since I signed up at farktography…. 😉
Wouldn’t it be funny if we instructed FSM to tally this contest backwards and give the least amount of votes the highest places? (doing it at fark would be too obvious… heeheehee)

ParticipantI suspect that the horse is fine. I think “house pets” was more the spirit of the limitation.

Participantedited for right-left mix up
Thanks for the illustration. 😀 I was second guessing myself after I posted that, and you’re right, it’s that spot right in the middle on the right. The only thing to do about it would be to crop the sides out and that would result in a picture with a totally different feel. As I haven’t seen it, I can’t say that it would be a bad thing, but my instincts are saying that’s not the solution.
Anyway, when all’s said and done: I like it anyways. 😉

Participantthis one –
If it were me, I’d rotate that one a teensy bit, so that the right side isn’t more elevated than the left side. It’s got such great shapes and lines, but the slight wonkiness puts me off a little…. possibly just because of the potential I see there. Keep in mind that this is because I’m nuts about found geometry (meaning shapes you make present by the way you frame the shot). So it could be just me. We’ve already established my mental condition… 😛

ParticipantYeeeeah…. I’m a bit weird with the camera… but I guess that’s why I do farktography.
HA! Does absolutely nothing to say ‘Death Star’ to me. Even if I squint. 🙂
Haha, I’m crazier than you are!
Wait, that’s not a good thing, is it. 😕

ParticipantI ended up going with shots that have technical flaws but that I think are neat in their own special way.
One of the ones I considered and rejected … er, maybe I should just post it… I heard somewhere that a picture was worth a thousand words…
That fruit (which is an ornamental plum, btw) out of focus like that just makes me think of the death star for some reason hahahaha. Believe it or not I took the picture that way on purpose.

ParticipantI really made an honest effort to choose pictures that I like but am aware that I like them because of strange quirks of my thinking processes rather than because they necessarily conform to general standards of beauty and form. Not that they don’t have any of that, I’m not saying that… but these pictures are like an ugly pet piranha: I have fond owner’s eyes for them, but don’t honestly expect others to share my appreciation unless they’re into piranhas too.
All things considered, however, I certainly hope others will appreciate them (vote for them, call their friends, have them vote…)! 😛 lol

ParticipantHi guys,
How do you post an image to pop larger in another window so I’ll have that figured out for next time?
KW
Hi and welcome!
Put in your image link then select it and click the button below. I use farkit, but I believe that’s how it’s supposed to work using Fark’s built-in features.

You can practice/try it out on the scratch pad http://www.fark.com/cgi/comments.pl?IDLink=69 . I hope that helps!

ParticipantI’m home now. Quick story. We are having a lovely freezing rain here in Central Illinois. (I would really like to call in ‘sick’ tomorrow, but that ain’t going to happen). Anyway, while driving home in the rain, I came up over a hill and there was a cop with his blue lights on about 1/4 mile away. I can’t explain the physics, but that blue light was beautifully reflected by the wet road all the way back to me. It was raining pretty hard (at 32 F) but I said, “what-the-hell” and pulled into a parking lot across the street. I got out my camera and tripod and threw an old shirt over the whole thing. I slip-slided my way across the frozen parking lot and three lanes of road.
The blue lights were really, super cool.
Just as I pulled the first tripod leg out, the cop turned off his lights and drove away. I smiled a wet crooked smile and got back in my car. 🙂
Taking a page from our local birds… except that in that case he would have waited until you got the tripod set up and the shot framed. THEN he would have left. 😛

ParticipantAlways 😉
Here’s my B side…prolly should have submitted it instead of tequila sunrise, but I wanted something funny:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lady_elsinore/4283423155/Naw, I think you made the right choice. Now we’ll see if the rest of the voting community thinks so too…
/’course I don’t vote until Saturday, so you’ll have to wait a few days for my vote…. 😛

ParticipantYers. I think I’m much more gone than I realize. I didn’t notice the wing strut before, so I thought it was coming out from a different place.
As long as you’re having fun. 😀

ParticipantOk, but how did you get the camera under the belly of the plane?
You goofball.
Okay, here’s Olav and John pushing the plane to the gas pump…
Now, picture it up in the air, and me in the back seat with my camera. Make sense now?

Participantmy all-time favorite sunset photo was something I’ve already used, so I couldn’t use it this week:
Oooh, the lines in that are awesome. I love geometric shapes in photography.
