ParticipantAlso, as a side note, part of my job is calculating the publicity value of forum posts and google plus and all that crap. According to our publicity value calculator, any mention in a farktography thread is worth $32,150.
A half page mention in National Geographic is worth $32,825.25O.O how in the heck is that possible?

ParticipantI’m trying an experiment this week in posting less dry more abstract titles for some of my photos and see if there’s a measurable difference.
We could try it here too. Is your reaction to this photo different with a different title?

ParticipantFor this theme Yugoboy I do agree with linguine – they should be alternates you could have but didn’t use.
However I don’t think we need a time limit this time since the last B-sides theme was before I started playing, so at least 2.5 years ago. If we are making it an annual thing then I think next year we should implement a “prior year” clause.

Participantennuipoet I will point out that what you see in your stream is your choice…you don’t have to recircle every person that circles you. I have about 1600 followers but I’m only following about 300 people and from the outcry of the masses on G+ I’m guessing (and hoping) they will soon implement a filter for your default stream.
But that said, I know what you mean. There’s been some people I’ve uncircled after awhile because they just spammed and spammed and spammed.
And an internet friend of mine asked me to start posting my photos from a page rather than as myself because they were clogging his stream. It’s not perfect but it’s in progress.Kestrana
Participant…it IS the wabbit…

ParticipantTo clarify – I’m not upset at the reception my photo work is getting on G+. I’m pleased with every comment, circle and +1 I get.
I just see the slippery slope mentioned by the author and the potential for the photo community there to be inundated by myspaceish copycats that distract entirely from the other options there are in the photo world.

ParticipantTechnically malls are private property so they can limit photography but I’d just check with the mall website or information desk when you go in if you’re worried. I had my camera in the mall and was taking pictures on Black Friday, several security saw me, no one said a thing.
And if they had I was prepared with my “I’m taking pictures for things I want on my Christmas list” excuse but really, considering every teenager has a camera phone, I don’t know why or how a mall can think they can prevent photography on their premises.

ParticipantTeam U-Man? Obligatory shirtless shot imo.

ParticipantI didn’t know we could see other galaxies with the naked eye. Learn something new every day (wonder what that pushed out).

ParticipantThere haven’t been too many questions regarding this theme but just FYI, I will be away from the computer from 1 pm EST til possibly after the contest is posted. So if there are any questions or clarifications that need to be made, fight amongst yourselves. Whomever has the highest saving throw wins.

ParticipantI don’t have any helpful advice other than it’s all about the lighting. And I love TrentChau’s work, if you want some ideas (although he mostly does nudes) on poses and props check out trentchau.com

ParticipantYou might know about this feature already but I just figured this out last night – on the 5000, when a photo is in review you push either down or up to show the histogram. If you press ‘ok’ from the histogram it takes you to the in-camera modification menu. The first option is Active-D lighting. Applying this to a photo does in camera light balancing of the image. It worked pretty well for me last night doing shots for this week’s theme. The modified photo is saved as a new photo. I’d try a couple test shots, but this might allow you to shoot at a faster shutter speed/lower ISO to reduce noise/larger f-stop to improve clarity and focus and then do some quick in-camera adjustments.
Good luck, this sounds like an exciting opportunity!

ParticipantThe flail is my favorite part. My high school friends are hard-core geeks but none of us had asthma!

ParticipantYeah well if it makes anyone feel any better, this was my idea and I have absolutely nothing ready. And 99% of the stuff I was going to use for this is in storage 800 miles away. YAY! CHALLENGE!

ParticipantThey probably consider those fees more like membership dues and it helps them pay for expenses like renting meeting space or supplies.
Did you talk to any of the photography staff at your university? I should hope they know how to develop color film. Maybe they could run a seminar on it with the photo club? Or point you towards a worthwhile photo group.
As for “chemical contamination” makes me worry about using their room. You’re supposed to wash your developing tubs and reels after you’re done, and flushing with clean water is part of the development process…so if they’re worried about chemical contamination they might be doing something wrong.
