ParticipantWow this thread is looking freaking amazing!! I’m loving the b-sides too.
Also, happy anniversary Kestrana! I’m in love with your part of WA and I love to see what you’ll post each week.
Thanks to everyone!
There were a lot of amazing photo opportunities there, but I live in Connecticut now. It’s a great place to visit though, if you ever get the chance.

ParticipantIf you want snow fog ice and rain go vote for the Weather theme in the themes forum 😀
Kestrana
ParticipantYup that’s fine

ParticipantIf the frozen water would be an expanse of water normally (i.e. a frozen pond, lake, river) it’s fine but just snow or fog on it’s own is not the purpose of this theme.
monsieurstabby that’s fine.

ParticipantI did hear back from Drew that the publisher will likely have a separate legal form we will all be required to sign in addition to the one I have already sent out, but that the one I’ve sent is good for fark and depending on what the publisher says, may end up just sticking with that one.

ParticipantThe only page I “need” is the signature page. I just need the information contained on the other pages if you simply want to email me your preferences instead of sending back the actual form.

ParticipantThere are radio transmitters you can get to track payloads even in the small rockets that we fly but they cost $. Same with the altimeter. Although you would at some point you do lose enough rockets to equal the cost of the transmitter, the one with the camera in it that was lost recently came down in the neighbor’s pond if I remember correctly, and so would probably have been toast even if it was recovered.

ParticipantI doubt the world really cares much 😛

ParticipantIt’s an expanse. An urban landscape is still a landscape.

ParticipantThe reasons I like this picture:
– It one of the recent highest vote-getters in a tough contest
– It’s visually interesting while leaving enough empty space to put text
– The subject is generic enough it could be anywhere and thus be universally connecting to an audience
– The look of pure unadulterated joy and excitement on the dog’s face
– It’s interesting and has broad appeal so that people might giggle and pick up the book, curious to see what is inside
– It’s reflective of the fact that you don’t have to be a technician or take complicated photos to win a farktography contest (not to knock those winners in that category)
– It wouldn’t otherwise be included based on the themes we selected for the bookKestrana
ParticipantIt’s a neat idea but I don’t know that I would always have much to say.
For last week’s contest example, I took the shot with my Nikon D5000 ISO 200 at f11. It was early morning in the forest, it was foggy and the light was streaming through the trees brilliantly but we were quickly losing it to the heat of the day. I took about 50 pictures of the general area around our campsite, this one happened to have a picnic table in it (with my water bottle sitting on top). If I’d been thinking more about it I’d either have cleared the table or set up more on it. But I don’t have a lot of profound wisdom otherwise.

ParticipantConsumer products are part of the public domain so there shouldn’t be an issue with that photo however I am pretty committed to the photo that is currently on the cover being in that place with different text and/or layout. However if you guys have other (even self promotional) suggestions and an argument why they would make a good cover, we can find another home for Dancin_in_Anson‘s precious poochie if it builds critical mass.
