Whoever took the picture sprayed the leaves with water?
The droplets should be running, but they’re not. Some seem to be heading in different directions (the droplets should be dripping off the
leaf tips). Gravity is taking a day off.

There were bears in Little Red Riding Hood? Not Goldilocks? I thought there was only a wolf, a woodcutter/woodsman, Little Red Riding Hood, and of course the zombie grannie.

Damn. You’re right. It was Goldie. 😳

Looks like someone was too busy with his camera during the show…. 😉

By the way, she totally kicked ass with her speech. It was all memorized and she barely faltered. She looked really comfortable and I actually got ‘choked-up’ proud of her. 🙂 She did a bit about Little Red Riding Hood. But in this one the bears press charges for breaking and entering and she gets tossed in jail.

In Texas, they have a version where the Three Bears come back to find cute little Goldilocks asleep on Little Bear’s bed, and they invoke the Castle Doctrine.
Boy, did that ending surprise the kids.

Steal away, steal away. I am only sad I forgot to work the word “juxtaposition” in there. Ooh, and “semelfactive” would have been nice too.

There is a word for truck in Japanese. It’s “Torakku”. Yeah. So basically Chevy got it right.

Actually, there is a word, but it’s never used. 貨物自動車. Using it would be like saying you ride the “omnibus” to work.

Interesting about the pay scheme. Not an easy way to make a living. I know a guy who sells some of his stuff to calendars, which pays a little. And the editor told you that next time you should factor in 20% for VAT?

Yeah, #2 is really nice, and I like #6 as well, though you have too much room in the picture.

    Geddit?

    Much room…muShroom.

    Jeez, I kill myself….

I used to do a lot of translation work, and I can tell you that the marketing stuff was the hardest to do. Lots of words saying nothing.

I’ve never thought about it, but that makes a lot of sense. Lots of nuances, innuendos, and word play that wouldn’t necessarily translate directly.

The problem was in the vocabulary, and the reasons why that vocab was used.
Japanese marketing language, depending on the product field, uses lots of foreign loan words, often words that aren’t really understood by your average Japanese Joe-san.
It’s kind of a way of blinding them with cool-sounding English words, but when you translate those words back to the original English, it just sounds weak.

Fashion stuff was another one for lots of foreign words. I remember translating something for a well-known bra manufacturer; that was hell.
And yes, I was about to type in “large bra manufacturer” before I realised the potential permutations 😯

I like the picture, and it’s great that you can now brag that you are “a US-based photographer who works mainly in former Soviet-bloc countries exploring themes of torture and control on the post-communist psyche”.

Oooh, you’re good. You should be in marketing (assuming you’re not already). 🙂

No, not marketing, but another area full of bullshit: academia 😉

Local government stuff was pretty bad, too.

…and I see a photoshoot being set up. So I’m watching along with a cow-orker and a gal and a guy get out of an SUV. I nudge my buddy and say “Hey, that’s the ‘Dude, you have no Koran’ guy!”

Damn shame I’m at work, I’d buy him a beer.

I am more curious about what sort of work a “Cow-orker” does…it sounds dirty 😯

/was the photoshoot for DYHNK guy?

Just found a mirrorless camera lens review, so I am putting it here for your consideration:
    http://www.seriouscompacts.com/f41/mirrorless-camera-standard-zoom-shootout-impressions-558/

Doesn’t include all lenses, only standard zooms.
