What about if I did the opposite of color popping, like if I made the person in the middle of the picture B&W, and left the rest of the picture color?

I did one sort of like that too.

I finally got a successful color popping photo. Question: Can we use a previously entered photo that has been transformed into a color popped photo. And likewise, for soosh’s “hootennany theme” can we use previously entered photos. They have such a different appearance that my vote would be to allow it. But I leave it to the rest of you to give the guidelines.

I know we can’t use repeat images for the hootennany so I’m assuming we have to use new images for this contest as well.

I had forgotten some of those old regulars we’ve lost over the years, I’m not even sure I recognized half the people from it.

I think the file size is somewhere around 180 mb, but most people tend to keep it closer to 100 to be safe since its a fuzzy limit.

Damn! Them’s some big pics! Oh wait, that’s millibits….Damn! Them’s some tiny pics!

I’m sure you meant kb, but I had to have a little fun.

Yeah, I meant kb, but just for that we’ll limit you to millibits for this contest.

I remember it went back and forth on whether or not we could use past entries in this, did we ever make a final decision on that?

Also on fark images cant be wider than 640 pixels and I think the file size is somewhere around 180 mb, but most people tend to keep it closer to 100 to be safe since its a fuzzy limit.

The contests are on fark.com. So if you don’t have an account there you will need to create one to be able to post. The contest starts for totalfarkers at 8PM eastern time and at midnight for the regular farkers. One of us will put up a link to the specific thread on fark in this thread and a link will also show up at the top of the farktography website or you will find it as the first Thursday link on fark.

Thanks for the easy-to-follow steps ennuipoet. I have a dumb question for you though. I not much of a shooper at all so bear with me. Using gimp I did steps 1-3 no problem. I can switch between the 2 layers and see both the color and b&w version. But when I erase from the desaturated duplicate layer it just leaves white spots – it doesn’t reveal the color version underneath. I’m sure I could google the answer but I figured I’d just ask the experts.

You need to set the top layer to transparent. When you open a new layer at the bottom of the new layer dialogue it asks you layer fill type and has 4 options, just make sure that transparency is the selected option.

How certain do we have to be of the objects age, I have some pictures that I’m considering that I think are of buildings over 100 years old, but Im not that certain.

With the blocks, I’d say only if they’re over 100 years. But I do like the humor of the intent, regardless.

As far as the costume, I figure as long as you include text to specify that it’s the costume and not the model that is the focus, or compose the photo to say as such without words, it’s all good.

Thats what I was guessing and the blocks are just from the 80s, but I figured it was worth the couple of minutes I spent on it to give it a try.

Are we allowed to use something younger than 100 years old to represent something older?
Yes this is for an incredibly stupid idea.

I wouldn’t think that would qualify, but can think of several things it could apply to and might see an argument for it. I’d defer to orionid on it, though.

So you would think something like this would be stretching the rules of the contest too far?

Would anyone be kind enough to do an OBO for me? I’m in a bit of a pickle computer-wise. Thanks in advance!
