ParticipantOk, as I’m playing with this, I have to ask. Is it only filter stuff we can do, or are brush strokes allowed? Specifically, the impressionist brush is fun and a few other tools, but I’m still not sure how it will end up yet, so I’m asking.
Also, should we post a link to the original so people can see what we did/where we started from?
Thanks!
I believe that would be fine since its along the lines of making a photo look like its stained glass.

ParticipantWeeks like this have me wondering if I am actually learning anything about photography. My top two this week are tied for 90th place. Its almost enough to make a person give up. Almost. There are a lot of really nice pictures again this week.
I’ve had plenty of depressingly low contests as well, but over time I’ve seen my average votes slowly climb up even if it doesn’t always feel like I’m getting any better.

Participantso I’m guessing being really really high when taking the photo won’t qualify it?
Probably not, but maybe if the photo was was taken as you were coming back down and crashing since its supposed to show downward stuff.

ParticipantI don’t care too much about which way we go, but I’d lean towards grayscale for this contest and then doing a monochrome contest where people could use whatever colors they felt like.

ParticipantTinted monochrome is the same thing as sepia right?
Sepia is one way to tint an image. There are others
So sepia is monochrome but brownish only?

ParticipantI know that we’re only supposed to use photos that fit themes since we’ve started competing in farktography, but are we just supposed to use themes we’ve already competed in or can we also use themes that we skipped after our boobies?
linguine
ParticipantI’d be fine with that too.

ParticipantOne more point of clarification, the pictures have to have been TAKEN after whatever contest they’d fit in, right?
oops, I lied, one more thought – I’m guessing we shouldn’t go out and shoot something new to use?
Question 1, the pictures have to be taken after the contest.
Question 2, good question.linguine
ParticipantSoosh, I love your sailboat shot.

ParticipantMy instinct is to avoid “themeless themes” so that it’s very clear why the farktographer wanted the picture in question for the contest in question…. it was just too late. Are you following me? I think that would be pushing it a bit with “homeless” contest, myself because of that themeless theme feeling about it. Arguments can be made, and I’m willing to listen, but that’s my feeling on the spirit of this contest.
I agree with leaving out all themeless contests because otherwise this would essentially be themeless too.

Participantmy my my…. okay. no “specialty themes” like those above. No themes where there was more than one shot per post, no themes that break the ordinary manipulation rules. Personally I’m inclined to allow panoramas, but I don’t know that allowing panoramas in light of cutting off all the other stuff might not be fair.
I was going along fine thinking I would enter at least one of the color popping photos. I really liked my pink poppy but afterwards decided everyone must have thought it was boring. Had a funny one that may have drawn more votes. But the ruling is no to using a photo from the color popping theme. Correct?
I think color popping would fall under the no special rules contest exclusion and couldn’t be used. But if it was a photo that you were debating using for the color popping theme it wouldn’t be eligible because the photos are supposed to be from after the contest happened.

ParticipantAnother question; say you have someone horseback riding with other stuff in the background. Do you want only the horse or the person to be ‘the object’ or can they be color-popped together?
I think doing either or both would be fine. As for your earlier question I’ll give other people a chance to jump in about that since I don’t know what all of those filters do.
