ParticipantGreat shots, I really love the 2nd shot in your 2nd post.

ParticipantNot trying to be a smart-alec, really… this weeks contest tickled some brain cells and I have two questions:
– adjustments, such as saturation; can’t make things look cartoonish. I have a particular picture that has its own certain punch when saturation is exagerated (but not nearly maxed). It looks a bit unreal, without looking fake (hard to describe, I’ll post a link if needed).
– duplicate entries; what is the underlying rationale? Some images lend themselves to multiple contests (I’m particularly thinking of the image mentioned above). “technically” I could take two exposures of the same scene and it wouldn’t be a “duplicate”, even if it looks exactly the same. 😉 (so, that’s why I’m asking for the underlying rationale).
For this weeks contest you could probably get away with a little bit higher saturation than usual, but the general idea is for it to look real. If you think it might be questionable you can always post a picture here first to let people look at it first and decide it its legal.
As for the no duplicates, I wasnt here when they came up with the rules but Im assuming that was put in to keep farktography fresh and constantly having new pictures to see every week rather than seeing the same pictures over and over again. We have the anniversary contest once a year thats fun so that people can go back and show their past entries again, but I personally think farktography wouldnt be as fun and interesting if people didnt have to keep coming up with new entries.

ParticipantThis was a hard theme, I thought I had a good idea and was going to hold a glass bottle in front of a boat to have a boat in a bottle, unfortunately the bottle was way to thick and you had no idea that there was a boat there.
linguine
ParticipantIt’s a lot of darkening, but I think the new rules allow for it.
Thanks, not overly happy with it and its kinda hard to tell whats going on in it, but I figure since I uploaded it and all my other ideas fared even worse I might as well enter it.
linguine
ParticipantStapler, I think your shots are fine for the theme.

ParticipantIs darkening an image this much in gimp pushing the rules a little bit to far

Heres the original

ParticipantZekes entry also became the new highest vote getter.

ParticipantMaybe we can just say “Compositional changes that involve adding or removing elements of the photo are bad.” Doesn’t change the meaning, just is more clear. Don’t think we’d need to resubmit the whole thing all over again for that reason.
Yeah, that seems a clearer to me.
linguine
ParticipantWhile Im fine with the changes, the wording of no compositional changes makes it sound to me like cropping is not allowed instead of being allowed like it currently is.
Im not sure what a better wording would be, Ill give it a shot tomorrow when Im more awake.linguine
ParticipantYep, looks like they are. They were cute, too 🙁 voting is now disabled on them.
Yeah, I really liked that one with the cat in the boat and I think I voted for it both times which is the only reason why I think I noticed it.

ParticipantI think its usually called on early Saturday afternoon.

ParticipantAre wakitu’s 1st and 3rd entries repeats?
linguine
ParticipantShould we include no stitching photos together unless otherwise stated as well or would you say thats covered with no gross compositional changes?
linguine
ParticipantEvery person I’ve asked about which shots to submit have said completely different things.

If you feel like helping a stapler out. I’m totally useless with this. As soon as there’s a cat in the shot my brain can’t go further than “YOU’RE A KITTY!”)Numbers 1 and 3 are my favorites followed my 9-3 and excusesexcuses.
I could use some help narrowing down my shots as well if anyone wants to look through the cat picks at the beginning of my photostream too – http://www.flickr.com/photos/guine/
And if we really wanted to bring fark(and possibly flickr) to their knees we could try to start a second thread without voting for all the shots that didnt make the cut for this week.linguine
ParticipantTheres all sorts of cloths blowers and brushes that are usually pretty cheap that you can get to keep your lens clean. But like Claff said, just getting a uv filter is a cheap way to protect your lens.
