ParticipantI just got cs2 – mayhap I should check out Bridge. iPhoto was killing me, but then I got around to updating it to 5 and it scales up better but still is teh junk. Thx for the tip.
As for the flash drive, it doesn’t mount to the desktop – which, now that you mention it, violates the metaphor. Doh!
bridge is pretty sweet. i’m reading the new scott kelby book on cs2 – there’s lots of little thingys in there that make life easier. they probably existed in cs, but i did not know of them then.

i don’t use my iPhoto anymore, it just got too irritating. so i download right from my compact flash card to a file, and then look at everything in the cs2 bridge.
that is not at all helpful.
🙁

ParticipantI wouldn’t use your home computer to print pictures. It’s expensive and the picture quality isn’t all that great. What I did was set up an account with Walgreens (target, Walmart, whatever). Yuo can upload your pictures to the store and they will have them printed within an hour. Plus at a cost of 19 cents a print, it can’t be beat. It’s simple and the quality is great.
i don’t know what you’re printing with, but i disagree. i get beautiful prints from my printer, and i would never trust walmart/target/sam’s club with anything other than snapshots.
but that is just me, and what the heck do i know about anyone else’s printing needs. 🙂

Participanthere’s some pics i just took of my house – to say we’ve had some snow this winter would be a bit of an understatement, i think. 😮
Very impressive 😛
our fence is rapidly becoming useless as a means for keeping the dogs in the yard. 😀

Participanti posted some pics from the front of my house over in the ‘this week’s theme’ thread – after today, we’re probably up to 300″ this winter.
gooood snowboarding weather, i tell you what!

ParticipantDescription: pictures of snow and or ice or both
Thanks to DrewsMom & kmmontandon for this week’s theme.you’d think with all the snow we’ve gotten this year so far (almost 300 inches) that i’d have more pictures of it.
but nope. all except two were taken within the last 3 days.
Wow. Where do you live? We got 4 feet in 36 hours here this time last year. Took me two days to dig our cars out.
jackson, wy. we’re about 60 inches or so ahead of last year. the first week of the new year we got 70 some inches in 6 days, or something crazy like that. we’re in the midst of a system now that’ll probably end up dumping another two or three feet through friday/saturday.

That’s kind of funny considering 😛
Mine were taken in a 3-day span; two from the weekend we went to the mountains to play in the snow and one from the weekend it snowed at my house.
I envy you Monkey, I wish it would snow here just a little more often.oh, i LOVE the snow. i think it’s just that there is SO MUCH of it, that it doesn’t strike me so much anymore. it’s hard for something to be catching your eye when it is everywhere you look. 🙂
if i have time tonight i’ll post some shots of my street/neighborhood at night – we are fully snowed in. 😮

ParticipantOK,
Now what is the easier type of reel to load (assume 35mm)? Stainless steel reels? Adjustable plastic> Fixed plastic? Any favorites?
Thanks
i prefer the stainless steel, but that might be because that is what i learned on.

Participantthanks galley! i know i’ve said it a million times already, but i really can’t believe it. there is sooo much beautiful stuff in this week’s contest….i’m honored, as cheesy as that sounds.
huge thank you to all who voted for me – again with the feeling of honor.

ParticipantIf you’re mainly doing slides and film, get a slide and film scanner. They’re much, much, much, much better at scanning slides and film. All of the modern ones will even digitally remove dust from the image as you scan. Unless you have a $20,000 oil-mount flatbed, you’re just not gonna get the same quality with a flatbed as you would with a slide scanner.
You should always try to scan the negative or the slide if you can, as opposed to the print, unless you want to post-process it with some old fashioned dark-room work instead of photoshop work.
BTW, if all you’re planning to scan is Polaroids and stuff, you can pick up a cheap $100 flatbed that’ll do that just fine.
This will do you quite well for a slide/neg scanner:
Or this, if you have more money:
hmmm. ok, i think you guys have me talked into a dedicated slide/neg scanner, especially since my SO already has a flatbed that i can use.
how does everyone feel about those nikon scanners? (coolscan? something like that. it’s linked in chakalakasp’s post)

ParticipantG’night, monkey.
Needless to say, I just about wet myself when I saw that lightbulb pic; I’m glad it garnered the recognition it deserved.
I’m pretty psyched, too, that Drew got us greenlit so quickly: the response has been tremendous, eh?
Well, anyway, sleep well.
that is so funny – i wasn’t going to enter it until i got some really good feedback from it on my pbase site. maybe i’ve just seen it too often? either way, i can’t even believe how well it’s doing. i am honored and humbled, to say the least.

ParticipantGood show everyone. I blew it tonight. I’m exhausted and we got final word today that my Father-in-law has, at the most, 6 months to “live”. If ya’ll are so inclined, please say a prayer for him (Glenn) and the family. G’night. 😥
*hug*
so sorry to hear that galley – you and your family are definitely in my thoughts.
