Participanti have been shopping out digital slr’s for some time now
wondering which one to jump at
in the guise of a christmas gift to me, i’ve got it down to two optionsnikon’s new d200
canon’s eos20-dany thoughts?
anyone use either of these?like the feel of the canon
haven’t played with the nikon yet, but love their d100 & 35mm slr’sm
i shoot with the 20D and love it. i don’t have any experience with nikon though, so i’m not very well informed on that side.

ParticipantDoes anyone know if the pre-Lite voting remains, or if the voting slate is wiped clean when the thread moves over?
Just curious…
The votes stay, but I gave up on voting early and now I wait until the next day. It’s a lot easier than going back over and over the thread.
Yay Monkeybort, you were in first the last time I checked. Have a safe trip home.
Veruca, those are some damn funny signs. I went to a pretty wild party on River Rd. way back in the day, so I can say without a doubt that the Don’t Drug and Drive sign is well placed. And 9.99 for self esteem? I’ll take two. 😉
I tried to comment on your Pbase idle_hands, but I don’t have a paid account… yet. Those stop signs are hilarious.
bort! bort! bort! 😀
Thanks GalleyWench. My girlfriend came out a couple of summers ago and demanded that I pull around and take a picture of that sign. I was all whatever at the time but it makes me laugh now.
And your doorstop? I demand to know what the 4th little person is doing there! No…choking? Haha.
This week’s contest made me laugh like no other.
w00t!!
i can’t even believe it – i mean, i love that picture, but it’s just SO weird. i’m glad people like it!!

ParticipantHiya synthemesc! I’m going to sign out and take a lil’ nap. I feel like I’m coming down with something… See you all in a bit.
ooo, go rest yo’self!
feel better soon!
synthemesc – good evening!

ParticipantOoh, I wish I were there too. How long do you get to stay?
we fly out friday morning – back in jackson by 6:30 pm. just in time for new year’s eve!
logo – gotten some good stuff so far. some great stuff from the airport in minneapolis (oddly enough), and misc. oddments from out and about. i’ll have to do an edit immediately upon arriving home.

Participantyou better not be stumbling through an abandoned insane asylum tonight without the rest of us!
i think i’m actually in a fully habited insane asylum. 🙂
it is very very odd to have this many people over 60 out and about around me. disorienting, to say the least.

Participanthiya chickie. i’m so envious! what’s it like to walk outside and not need a jacket? 🙁 hope you’re having fun and also a safe trip home.
very surreal. we were at the beach today and i actually got cold. weird.
in my defense, it was windy. and there is a lot of moisture in the air.
ok, ok, there is no defense. *grin*

ParticipantThis sounds like fun, but would you all think I was tacky(er) if I sent mine through shutterfly?
not at all – that is a really good idea.
i was thinking that the (mis)handling by the post office would add a little something to the pics, but maybe i was just thinking that because i thought it was inevitable. *grin* i think using shutterfly or flickr or one of those sites is a great idea.

ParticipantIt’s hard to narrow it down but I really like the postcard idea. Would we have them printed like real postcards or do like my friend does and just draw a line down the back with a sharpie, write on it, and then mail it?
the easier the better, says i! definitely just throw an address and stamp on the back and mail it.

ParticipantHas anyone had any experience w/ Aperature? It’s supposed to be fairly revolutionary in improving workflow* but I’m wondering if the first release is as buggy as the number of patches coming out may imply. Looks awesome if it lives up to its billing, though…
*Has anyone noticed just how ugly iPhoto gets when it has a few thousand images in it – it doesn’t scale well at all, just brings the computer (a dual 2gHz G5) to a crawl. Errgh. That’s why I’m drooling over Aperature.
hey logo!
i believe in the general tech talk thread there is some discussion of aperture – the consensus seemed to be that if some bugs were worked out it would be pretty great, but as of right now…meh.
i haven’t used it though, so put me firmly in the ‘drooling’ crowd for now.
of course, that may have something to do with the turkey in the oven and the pecan pie cooling in the fridge. *grin*
happy holidays!!!!

ParticipantHappy Fesitvus for the rest of us!
Bring on the airing of grievances and feats of strength. Then we’ll dance around the metal pole in our tiny red thongs (with regret to monkeybort – that still cracks me up).
Seriously though – Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all 😛
*lol*
happy christmahanukkwanzivus!!!!
i’ve got bort-flancrest’s quote about his tiny leather fighting thong in my profile. still laugh like a hyena every time i see it. *grin*
*begins stretching for the feats of strength*
He’s certifiable, isn’t he?
oh, without a doubt.
happy festivus, merry christmas, happy hanukkah, good kwanzaa, etc. everyone!!!!

ParticipantWelcome aboard Full Custom. I love your fark handle by the way. It always makes me think of Horton Heat. 😀
minor threadjack (forumjack?) –
the Rev is coming here at the end of February/beginning of March and i’m very very excited about it! i think it’s been two years since i’ve seen him – expect to see some shots from the show afterwards!!
/end forumjack
Awesome. I can’t wait to meet my first Farker!
i meant the Reverend Horton Heat is coming here – rereading previous posts made me realize that that is not all that clear.

ParticipantJust wanted to echo what monkeybort said.
I’m still such a n00b, but I still go out and try, try again, and then try to remember what worked last time and what didn’t.
There’s one photo in my collection taken in the Skagit Valley tulip fields where there’s a single red tulip in a field of a bajillion yellows. I walked through 5 tulip fields, in the rain and tromping through mud, and probably took 250 pictures that day (thank jebbus for digital). When I got home and unloaded the camera there were maybe 5 photos I really liked. Out of the 250, probably half were me playing with the settings on the camera.
My friends thought it was a nutso way to spend a Saturday but I had the best time that day.I also read a lot – have this awesome National Geographic Photography Field Guide which has gotten a lot of use. I study other peoples work.
I also think there’s a natural eye for photography. Do you ever look at something and frame it in your mind? Like taking a closer look…maybe seeing something in an object a little diffferently? There’s a game I play with my eyes – I can’t explain it but I see what I want and then try to recreate it with my camera.
Sorry for the winded response – just personal observation.
oh yes, second on the reading bit. and go to galleries, shows….look artists up on the internet. find a style you like and see if you can recreate that same feeling.
and shoot a lot! more than you think you need to. the smallest variation in composition or lighting can really make a big difference in the final product.
have fun and play around!!!
