ParticipantOf course, said kid would come out of the womb with a camera in hand. Hopefully it’d be a P&S. A DSLR could be downright uncomfortable.

ParticipantI thought that’s what the *knowing look* was for 😉

ParticipantLOL!
Well, my MIL is going to be in town next week, so it’s likely we’ll go there too 😛

ParticipantJust wait until you realize that you’re sitting next to each other on the sofa, and doing that. Or worse, having a FB conversation.
I can say that I don’t think we’ve sat in the same room and talked via chat…yet.

ParticipantI thought Queenbees Oreo’s were fine besides making both me and orionid want oreos. But we both agreed stupidos were out of theme so thanks for being proactive
I was going to add I’ve seen QB’s on two monitors and I had to really look hard to notice the brown. Which IMO fits the “looks like B&W”.
And, being proactiv really clears things up. Just ask Jessica Simpson.

ParticipantThanks, Elsinore.
I’m guessing he’s run off do dinner, but it looks like he uses the same filing system I do. Frame #6493 for this contest, and #6497 for B&WII

ParticipantElsinore, could you delete my post to nowhere at 2010-07-14 08:14:44 PM?
Thanks =P

ParticipantIf it’s 5% or so, then they’ve put the effort into getting the shot anyway IMO.
I just grabbed a couple of fairly monochromatic shots and tried. They all would have been no-gos (blue sky is still blueish, more intense colors pop, etc). Truth be told, it would only work on a shot that was already there, just needed an extra ‘kick’.
But, someone grabbing a random pic and desaturating it in PS or Gimp should be pretty obvious.

Participant“g-nash” was also the sound the Smurfs made in that episode where they were all running around and biting each other on the butts and turning purple…
I’m along the same lines though – simply desaturating a shot isn’t really what this contest is about – though the 5% or so I can get with DPP wouldn’t make much of a difference.
FWIW, I’ll likely just have two again this week, unless I get inspired, but the most I can say is that I went with what the camera decided the white balance should be for one of them =P

Participanta double-dutch rudder would probably be NSFW though.

ParticipantSorry….just catching up. ’twas a busy week :/
Kestrana I was originally toying with one the ideas we had whereby we would set a fixed number of photos per contest, and then go with the top ‘X’ number of photos, removing duplicates from the same Farktographer for that contest. The spreadsheet I’d started making before the interest in the project dwindled was compiling metrics and user names for each one. I didn’t finish it, but I can send you what I’ve got if you’re interested. Or, I can pick that back up and start compiling again if someone wants to define the parameters.
I like the idea of doing more than just 2009, too. We originally picked that because we were going to bust our collective arses and try and get something to the self-publisher before year-end, so people could make Christmas presents out of them, if they wanted. We have a *lot* of new Farktographers since then, and I’d like to see them included where they qualify.
Throwing out some of the so-so contests, might not be a bad idea to get more in. I’d definitely take out stuff like ‘A Second Look’ which was purely pictures that have been used before. Likewise the Anniversary contests.
For voting, I have an installation of Gallery2, where I host my personal pictures. It has a rating module that could be used for such a purpose. I’ve got 400 some-odd gigs on that drive, so space isn’t a concern, and b/w shouldn’t be a problem so long as my server doesn’t crap out again =P I can set up something quick and dirty this weekend if we want to see how that will work (I’ve never tried it)
and, staplermofo I think I see where you’re going – make it more about the Farktography, and why it is we loonatics do what we do, and let the pictures highlight the words? I like it.

ParticipantThat sounds like my kinda luck. But I like the one that made the contest so you never can tell.
heh. I actually do that a lot. And generally right after it’s really too late to add anything (or I’ve posted three)
This week, for example, I realized yesterday that I’ve got a good 70 some-odd pics of the Ninth Ward that I didn’t even think to consider. And, every one was a candidate :/

ParticipantIronically, on my way home tonight, the hookers were all on the second floor of the hotel. Probably would have been a better composition. Oh well.

ParticipantI generally suck at wordsmithing but I might be able to talk Kat into some of that come August – she’s doing JulNoWriMo so I doubt she’d be you for more than the 1500 + words a day she is already writing… I can help with numbers or other stuff…just let me know.
last year I started assembling a spreadsheet for 2009 and could start doing something similar.
