Participantsoosh, yeah I shot those using JPEG/RAW. So I have both. I can’t get CS2 to open the RAW pics. I believe there is a patch out there somewhere that allows photoshop to work with RAW from a Canon but I haven’t found it. I have never used the Canon software. Would it help?
I noticed your comment that you don’t think it needs adjusting. Anybody else want to chime in? Am I just focused on it because I know it is there? Would the average Joe not even notice?
I’m having a hard time seeing them personally, but maybe I’m just getting sucked in by the awesomeness of the shot.
I can’t help you with CS2 – I use the Canon tools for most of my post-processing and a little re-sizing, CCmark, etc in GIMP personally, but I found the Photostitch tool that comes in the Canon bundle does a pretty darned good job (learned this from a recent contest 😉

ParticipantI’m going to have to go to the bar and research this one thoroughly. Anyone care to join?
hah! I’ve bot a couple of years worth of blackmail, er….photos along that line. I wouldn’t mind taking something specific for the contest though, since that’s what I prefer.

ParticipantWhile technically possible, I’m not likely to delete entries – facts are facts, and as U-Man says, this could open a whole can of worms. And hey, this isn’t American politics – past indiscretions count here.
However, the whole participation level thing is completely and totally derived – I could change the algorithm to weight recent contests more. Sort of like a radioactive decay or something. That I am likely to do. Let me noddle over it a bit and see what I can come up with.
No problem. I can totally understand your reasoning and am cool with it. I didn’t know if mine was a singular case or something broader either. Alos, the last thing I want to do is barge in and screw with everyone else’s stats. Especially being just some guy who mucks about in the 6 votes average range.
The weighted thing sounds interesting though – if you’re looking at currently active versus ‘all time’ active. I appreciate your considering that 🙂

ParticipantI would say LED’s are right out.
They are not Gas discharge lights at all.Now if we were saying “anything BUT incandescent”
Technically a Camera flash is a Gas dishcharge light. I think Argon, but i could be mistaken.Read up on how a flash works… Its actually kinda cool how they get that massive voltage/current spike from a simple AA battery
Argon or Xenon. I can’t remember.
That reminds me – I have a Xenon flash bulb around here – i wonder if I can rig something up in the next day or two 😛

ParticipantPeople can post them on your behalf.
And the FSM can be jiggered to allow for a proper accounting.
The Farktography Team is pretty full-service.
(‘mofo, you keep cleaning the windshield, I’ll swipe the hubcaps)
That reminds me. Is there any way I can sweet-talk you into making my first contest entry disappear? I entered on picture on a whim back in 2005 that has totally dorked my statistics. I’m actually active now 😛
/totally understood if that’s against the rules. On a separate note, does anyone have any thoughts on LEDs? I’m assuming that’s a different type of lighting entirely, since it’s silicon, and not inert gas based, but I thought I’d ask.

ParticipantHeh. The smallest of those lights is still a good four or five times the size of a keycahin camera. I was lucky the thing had a slot for micro SD.
Personally, I would rather just pay a model, and use a studio with proper lighting, like here(sfw, barely)
Very nice!
I went a slightly different route – Smith-Victor makes some pretty nice light kits aimed at the amateur photographer market. I think I paid somewhere in the range of $300 for two fills and a hair light, with umbrellas and stands, plus a dimmer that I use on the hair light. The one caveat is that the ones I bought are incandescent, but they’ve got halogens as well.
in fact, i used the hair on it’s boom for my silhouette contest pics. My model (the lovely Just Kat) isn’t feeling very photogenic right now, though, so I’ll have to find some new victims, at least for the time being.

ParticipantI thought I’d see more HDR in this contest. It was certainly new to me and has been a great learning experience. I love the depth it gives to a photo.
I was going to, but time and family concerns meant I couldn’t spend half the weekend mucking around. Definitely something I’m going to play with though.

ParticipantI’m not a professional, but I will offer my best wishes and encouragement. Follow your dream, and don’t listen to us old pricks who didn’t follow theirs and are jealous. Do us proud.
Totally. If I could turn back the clock (and take the pay cut) i’d totally drop everything and pursue this line. I’m newly back in the ‘addiction’ and had apparently forgotten how much I’d love it back when.
Best of luck!

ParticipantThat said, what do y’all think about a roundhouse/turntable being in theme? It’s the ‘end of the line’ as far as the trains go, but it’s not a embarking/disembarking location.
I ask because some of the shots I plan on taking this weekend are near the California Railroad Museum and they’ve got a really nifty turntable where they spin their excursion trains around to go the other way.

Participantso I wouldn’t think it should qualify.
Uuuuuuh. So that’s a “No, don’t use that idea”. Right? 🙂
Personally, I’d love to see what you had in mind – you do some awesome stuff – but I’d guess that something pertaining to a terminal illness would definitely hit the difficulty wall.

ParticipantIt shouldn’t.
Many filters are made specifically for theatrical lighting – lights that get so hot you can’t move them while they’re on without welder’s gloves and an apron.
Good point. I was thinking more along the lines of home-brew lighting – a hi-power torch and some colored plexiglass (or similar) on a PVC frame. The missus built a light box that I think I could modify for the purpose…

ParticipantAs for half-naked… 😉 My husband and I thought his pix would do better, particularly the color one that’s inline (and has about half as many votes as the B&W.) I thought the colors were awesome in that picture, but apparently the majority wasn’t impressed. Maybe it’s that “cheapshot” angle, but he was really going for art, I thought. Or I should say that I agree with the “art” of them or I wouldn’t have let him submit them. *shrug*
LOL. If I was going for ‘cheap shots’ I wouldn’t have spent 20 minutes gettig the hair light exactly at the angle and intensity I was looking for 😛

ParticipantYou have a point. I guess my first step is wiki terminal and see what I can find that fits the theme that I have access to.
According to the dictionary http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/terminal, there’s a lot of ways one could go with this.
/Got myself some new ideas too, methinks…

ParticipantWell that cuts me down to a small airport because this podunk town does not have a bus station or ferry terminal or train station. It barely has public transportation.
I don’t believe the theme is limited to transportation only though. It might be a good excuse to skip the obvious and go with some macrophotography?
