Moisture is probably not the problem-the humidity last night was <20%, and it's always really dry up here. I'll try it when I get home, though, just in case. For now, I'm focused on finding that setting in the menu to reverse the wheels-I know it exists, I just can't seem to find it.

This is my kind of theme. Do you guys know how many 20-sided die I have? It’s probably unhealthy.

As much as I REALLY want to participate on this one, I just don’t have the time-the hammer really came down these past two weeks. I think I’ll finally be back in action next week, though. Good luck, everyone!

Keep rubbing it in Plamadude 😀

Always. Sadly, I’ve had so much work in the past weeks that I haven’t even had time to get my camera off the shelf, much less take it anywhere interesting. I should be over this worky-spell by the end of Wednesday. Wish me luck.

Holy crap, there’s a lot of REALLY good shots in there. What really gets me, though is the few that are way beyond really good-#25 comes to mind, among others. Spectacular gallery.

Woot! First try! Helps that it was one of my best photos, though. Thanks for bringing my attention to this contest, Kes.

Man, now I really wish I had some pics of an aztec pyramid that I could work up into a triptych for this contest. It would be the ultimate farktography in-joke.

I’d rather spend a couple thousand on a giant backlit Peter Lik panoramic.

So good, it had to be said twice. Agreed, though, Peter Lik is great.

I suppose I shouldn’t vote for cloudscapes, since that was both my suggestion and one that I won. Impartiality and all that. If I had to choose my favorites, though, I guess it’d be the following:
“It’s on the Travel Brochure” I remember as being particularly good.
“Scanner as Camera” was pretty great.
    I really enjoyed “Pathways” too.
And for sheer votes, “Puddytat” and “Vote Whoring” are way up there.

So it turns out that I left my film camera (and, of course, all the film I’ve shot-which is not much) on the mainland. Do’h.

I just noticed I said Maula Loa instead of Mauna Loa. Shows you just how tired I was after that trip. They pretty much kept us going for the entire 40 hours we were there.

I’m no astrophysicist (can we have an astrophysicist to the podium, please, Plama?), but I’m thinking since it’s moving against, yet parallel to, the background sky, then in a 15 minute exposure, the stars will have moved about 4 degrees, but the asteroid (at 8:30 MST) only 3 (these are loose approximations). So the asteroid will be spending some 33% more time in a given point in the sky than the background stars–this should make it appear some 33% brighter in long exposure (or technically short exposure too) photos.

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes, but it’s still pretty dim. I think that IRTF is very probably going to go for it (3 meter) and I think I know somebody who is going to try it on the UH88 (2.2 meter). It’s cloudy enough here in Manoa that it’s a moot point for me.

I try, and usually forget too.. I’m just not that awake in the morning.

Last week, I just happened to remember it, and took a bunch of really killer garter snake shots at lunch. I really ought to remember more often.

Weekends, it’s usually in the car, if not on my back when I leave the house.

The whole reason I started bringing my camera with me was that I found a HUGE snail on my way in to work one morning, and I didn’t have a camera with me. Of course, I haven’t seen a single snail since then, but there have been some pretty sunsets and nice rainbows I’ve caught.

I bring my camera and one or two of my favorite lenses (that changes every week or so) with me to work every day, just in case.
