For that matter, Zeke pussed out. He thought about doing a paper bag over his head kind of thing, but he didn’t get around to it. Looks like Quick Silver covered that angle, though 😆

It would appear that I lucked out then. If Zeke had entered the same thing 4 hours earlier than mine, I fear that I wouldn’t have stood a chance in hell. 😉

Thanks all, the pictures were salvaged and he now has software that I will have to make sure that I have on hand in the future just in case. If anyone would like specifics on the software just let me know and I’ll pass it along when I get it from him.

CF is supposedly a lot more reliable as well. I’ve never used a microdrive, but all hard drives die eventually.

This is true for sure, I have a stack of old hard drives that went bump in the night and will no longer function. I call them paper weights now.

Thanks all for the good info and advice. I am definitely going to stay with the CF cards. I checked the Link Curious, and that looks good to me. Thanks for doing my research for me.

    Thanks again to all.

your sigma is a 10MP camera isn’t it? what size files are you getting? and at what settings? if my loose extrapolation is right you should get roughly 80 shots on a 1GB card shooting xfine jpeg. i bought a 1GB toshiba CF card at sam’s saturday for $16. and it’s much faster on download than the kodak i have.

Curious, the book says that the file sizes will vary and that in high res (actual 2268×1512) med res (1512×1008) and low res (1134×756) this is because of the different calculation method used by Sigma. The camera shoots an actual 3.35 actual pixels but the sensor has 10.05 mpxl because of the 3.35 mpxl per color in 3 layers. I have a 1 and 2 gig cf card SanDisk UltraII’s but was thinking ahead to my trip to the Bahamas later thsi year and looking to add some storage. I know that in a week I can run out of storage space.
Thanks for your info and thoughts.

Sadly I can’t remember where I was. I was somewhere along my route under the trip link. I just thought that was a good picture and glad I sat there and took about 25 pictures to make sure I got the lighting right. The clouds were being a pain and didn’t want to let the light hit the rocks.

It appears that good things come to those who wait. I can’t claim that much patience but I am learning and getting better.

Try taking your meter reading from the sky, not including any ground, trees, etc or the sun itself. This is easy if you have an exposure lock button, or you may be able to do it on manual.

A preliminary test of this method shows that it is indeed helpful in the blowout situations. It was overcast here at sunset and I couldn’t fully test it but in the next few days I hope to get in some test shots to play with. Thank You Sleeping, You are wide awake with your photography knowledge.

Here’s a set of articles covering the different methods and software required to recover files from a flash memory card. Good luck!

Thanks Millera9, your assistance in theis matter is greatly appreciated. He lives in another city and I have passed the information on to him and hopefully he will be able to recover his photographs. I also am checking it out for myself. Although it hasn’t happened to me, it may at sometime jump up and bite me on the nether regions and I would prefer to learn the lesson from before it is needed.

I have read about astrophotographers stacking images to achieve a superior image and there are several pieces of software out there labeled for that specific task. The one that comes to mind was produced by Meade and called Autostar Suite. Is this the same thing as HDR? ❓

I think that Sleeping’s top entry was actually a Trojan Orange or mayhap twas Elsinore’s spy revealed and therefore under the Articles of the Geneva Convention that Lord Ezekiel mentioned may be executed. This should look more like Linguine’s Execution with a canon than some of the other torture that one would notice while browsing through all of the entries. I should also mention that it should look quite a lot less like my own entry of Apples Over Oranges which on second thought gives off the impression of some mamby pamby politically correct way of dealing with the enemy.
It was glorious fun. Can’t wait to do it again. 🙂
