ParticipantFirstly I wasn’t pointing a finger at you for not pulling those shots. I also didn’t take it as comming from you and saw no finger pointing. I just saw the possibility of others seeing me complaining about votes and that is not the picture I want to convey at all. I understand that the mods have their hands full and there is a lot of work that goes into these contests. Thank you and all of the other Mods for a great job. I really enjoy the forums and maybe get a little too wrapped up in the contests. I will reconsider.

ParticipantQuick Silver:Regardless, I really liked your abandoned school and farmhouse shots (they got votes from me this week). There’s something sort of magical about the abandoned school, particularly.
Thank You, there are old books and a broken black board that I couldn’t get because I didn’t take a flash with me. DuH I am not bitching about votes it’s just that when the situation of what was acceptable was laid out, I think it was obvious and it was ignored.
In the future I will not activate voting for any of my shots. Then when I bitch, all will know that I am not complaining about someone getting more votes than me.QuickSilver
Participantmeh, it’s Fark. Most of the time blatantly off-theme entries get removed. Some fall through the cracks and some get left there on an (albeit subjective) judgement call. But in the end, it’s not like there are fabulous prizes involved or anything.
I know but Barbie in the garbage doesn’t belong with your two shots of urban abandonment or some of the other fine shots this week.
I am through bitching now. Thank you very much!QuickSilver
ParticipantI’d say cars are ok, cause they’re of a pretty substantial size, but I wouldn’t want to say just any object and get a bunch of pictures of just random trash. A picture of an abandoned car can set the tone of an abandoned place, though.
How is a Barbie Doll lying in a pile of rubble or a childs push cart in some brush ” SUBSTANTIAL SIZE” not to be random trash?
Please excuse my venting.QuickSilver
ParticipantI know that I probably shouldnI agree. But don’t forget that some are in that condition because they were abandoned.
The point about ruins that I was making Doug was that for the most part a pile of building materials does not an abandoned place make. Secondly The famous ruins are far from abandoned. They see more tourist traffic than my local post office. 😆

ParticipantI know that I probably shouldn’t say anything but I must. There must be a rather thin line between “Abandoned and Ruins” Most seemed to follow the definition and I specifically avoided things that could be considered as trash and so completely devoid of structure to beg the question “What was left to Abandon”?
Just my 2? worth.

ParticipantHello and welcome kitryne 🙂
I started this thread for the extra abandoned photos that didn’t make the cut
How do we actually link to the pics? just a link to my flickr page?

ParticipantMy biggest struggle for this contest is which to choose. Not to mention should I go black & white of keep the color. Maybe we can post all of the unchosen in the gallery and see how badly we chose.

ParticipantYes I guess that would suffice.

ParticipantI have the same problem at times and am trying to figure out how to convert this 10 million candlepower spot light to a flash just for those times that require a pinch more than I have. 😉

ParticipantAre log rafts considered toys?
I guess I define a boat as a floating craft that can carry people and be navigated from point A to point B but I rule out rubber rafts and swimming pool toys and anything else a person cannot ride on. So a substantial log raft should count as a BOAT

ParticipantThis has been the thing that has got to me in a lot of contests as I generally do a few extra ideas incase one or two doesn’t turn out as planned. I also forget about photos that I could use until after I have entered mine and seen someone elses image which reminded me of them (like tulips this week).
I have several shots that made it very hard to make up my mind what to post. I had a shot of a sign on the front of a Target Store but thought there would be bunches of those. There were none. Tulips galore but thought they would be too common. Firetrucks and then a red paint spill, stop lights, boats. It was tough to decide

ParticipantIt is so amazing to me how after 7 contests, the photos that I submitted don’t match up with how I think they will do. I guess I am not learning anything. Of my 3 entries I thought the one that would be the best in the contest was the Li’l Red Wagon but it was my second best in everyones eyes. Then I thought that the most mundain shot, the Little Red School House was seen as my best work. What I thought was the most impressive statement of RED. You know the one that I could have submitted in black & white (and almost did), the Red Lobster it turned out to be the worst of the 3.
It also makes one wonder how the other 40 pictures I had for the theme would have played. 😀
Maybe next time I will try to reverse my selections.QuickSilver
ParticipantAnd hey, Zeke, was that a Mentos-initiated explosion?
Aye, it was. I swapped the leaded Big Red out for Diet, dropped in three mentos, and let it rip. That one was the first pic of the second shoot 🙂
Does Diet Pop give a more powerful eruption than does the standard variety?
