One other quick observation that I have about airport security and anything electronic. In most cases they have made me turn the blasted things on to prove that they were what they appeared to be. Things such as PDAs, Laptops, cell phones, game boys you know the drill. Just be sure that anything you take is charged up or you have a plug in adapter. Just a thought 😉

he also taught me that film is cheap compared to all the other costs associated with commercial catalog shooting. i have never looked back since.

and digital just takes that to a whole new level.

It does indeed ❗ Perhaps if I was ever shooting in the commercial end of the spectrum I would have considered film cheap as well. When I first started taking pictures, I would take the exposed film to the local pharmacy for processing and always was amazed that they were willing to give me a free roll of film for each roll I submitted for processing. Low did I realize that the real profit was int he processing fees collected. With that in mind film was cheap, it was the processing that I found myself so short of funds to afford.

That is why I love digital so much and only wish that I had done it years ago.

Ya know, I thought there was something about your Apples Over Oranges shot this week. My Dad has an SD-10–he loves it.

Thank you again for your help without which there would have been no apples over oranges photograph for you to compare. I guess all Sigma SD10’s give themselves away with the way the colors are handled. Quite differently because of the Foveon sensor.

The transition from filmstock to digital images caused me multiple problems because of my good habits with film so to speak. Firstly is the habit of only shooting 1 ISO setting for 24 or 36 shots, whereas with the digital cameras you may change ISO settings for every shot. It is for this very reason that it became such a problem for me to even remember that I had the option available. As the infomercial says, “Set It and Forget it”, that is the method I used for far too many years, well several anyway. The second problem is failing to get the shot that would be the the shot of the shoot, (that sounds awkward), because of the miserly habits learned with film to save exposures incase something that would really make a good picture happens.

I too pondered the question as I was voting, asking myself if I was voting for the photographic excellence or the conceptual answer to the theme of the contest. I fear that concept won out on this one.

I fear that it is I who is at fault here in this matter. I am sure that you have heard the saying that some people cannot tell a joke. I apparently am one who cannot tell a joke. Even my placement of the face thingies failed to insure the understanding of the jocular nature of my post.

Therefore I must admit to being more strange than weird.

Greatly sorry that my jest was taken to be a serious request for more pictures to be allowed into the contests by each participating Farktographer.

Oh calamity, I just now noticed that I didn’t provide any information in regards to my own question. 😳 I started out as a child…… no lets just skip ahead to the part about cameras. Let’s see where was I, yes Earth! My first camera was a Kodak brownie believe it or not and I only shot film until after the turn of the century, this one not the last. I have owned or used everything from Argus to Zeis but mostly have used Minolta and Cannon film cameras. I did have a poloroid 230 with many extras but have noticed that no matter which camera or era I was perfectly capable of taking some really terrible photographs. I was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital world with an inexpensive Sony point and shoot that I can’t even remember the model of. After I became quite proficient at taking many pictures in one shoot that I could throw away without having to incur the cost of developing and printing, I decided to blame the camera for the poor photographs and really spend some money to rectify the problem. That is when I got my Sigma SD10. I have an 18-50mm and an 55 – 200 mm and a 50 mm macro lens and a lot of filters to play with but they stay safely in their case. I don’t use film anymore and now I take some very unremarkable photos with a remarkable camera.

    Hello All,
Might there be enough lattitude to allow the posting of 6 pictures for each contestant photographer? In that way, one would be able to post a photograph showing the winner to be either and therefore not appear to have committed one’s self to favor one over the other. 😆 Oh calamity ❗ , I almost forgot, what about showing neither as the winner? 🙄 Well never the mind, I have confused myself and must retire to collect my thoughts until the contest.
