ParticipantJust a second thought, and maybe kind of late- thinking about the differences in what makes a good photo and what makes good wallpaper- maybe we should relax the photoshop/prior use rules for this contest. Just thinking out loud here.

ParticipantI’m passing out cigars in the pub, btw 🙂

Participantheh I did mine at work, as well…. just shut offf all the lights and worked by the light of the computer monitor. Course, I can get away with that ’cause I work the night shift all by my lonesome 🙂

ParticipantGood question- there are a lot of screen sizes and shapes, so a link to the various sizes should suffice, since I doubt that anyone uses a 640-pixel wide screen anymore. I vote that we use a GPL – variation “These photos, for this contest only, are for your personal use only as computer wallpaper. All other uses and rights are reserved by the photographer.”

Participantthanks hon. I’ve pretty much decided on the Tokina over the Sigma. I just need lots more than my 18-70 is giving me on the wide end.

ParticipantZeke, Elsinore needs some AB’s for Xmas.

ParticipantI think 3 different things is fine for 3 different shots, but I’d not presume to tell you your total shooting budget 🙂

ParticipantThe shots I entered tonight, I picked because there was a difference in how the scene looked to the eye compared to how the scene turned out with accumulated light taken into consideration.
And what does that have to do with the theme? Just curious.

ParticipantMy idea/intent was that the main subject of the photo be from the dollar store: anything else in the photo could be fair game. i.e. If you bought, say, a red parasol at the Dollar tree, and decided that it would look good arranged with some other colored parasols, (that might or might not have come from the dollar store) that’s fair game because the only thing I said was ‘buy a subject’ I didn’t specify what accessories, etc. Just that a(the) main subject in the photo come from the dollar store.

ParticipantI spoke too soon. It’s turning into a trainwreck.

ParticipantWell, my contribution to the lighting on that one was to add the flash off camera to the left.
My original intention was to get people to *think* about their contribution to lighting their photos and deliberately light them with something other than a bog-standard on-camera flash, or just natural light.
I sorta wanted to see people do things to ‘make’ a photo rather than ‘take’ a picture. So far, I’m not too disappointed. There’s only maybe one or two that don’t seem to get the idea so far.

ParticipantI’d kinda go with Flavivirus- it’s ambiguous, and about 51% on the the no side of the line *shrug* It’s probably closer than some of the other ones we’ll see tonight, though.
