ParticipantAh ok…I figured there was less ambient light than that. The flag black parts were maybe overexposed and just took on straight black from the b/w tool? I’m so out of my element with the whole “overpowering the sun with flash” thing…
You can get the cloudless parts of the sky pretty close to flat black without a flash at all using a deep red filter or the equivalent post-processing (i.e. totally eliminating the blue channel)

ParticipantNo, I was shooting the water with an airsoft pistol. You can see the pellet in some of them if you look bigger

ParticipantI don’t really understand why people needed that message in the first place – there’s a link to check the vote totals right there at the top of the page. I say post it in the Farktography forum after the thread closes and be done with the whole trying to call it before the thing ends problem altogether….

So, it rained today?. by awrose, on Flickrsleeping
ParticipantMeh, no lightning at all… Still, better a non-event than the opposite, I guess.

ParticipantWait, THAT’S how people capture those shots? It snaps the shutter as soon as it hears a sound, even if it’s a drop of water?
Not quite – it’s a flash trigger not a camera trigger (flash is much faster). A motion trigger is actually better for water droplets, I had to drop a strawful of water to trigger the flash, not a single drop.

ParticipantI found a (relatively) cheap one. It goes into the hotshoe (just as a place to put it, basically), and connects to the cable release socket to trigger the camera when it sees a bright flash.
I wouldn’t want to leave a camera on it unattended out in a storm though…

ParticipantMy apartment building is U shaped, so I might be able to get some shots from the front door without too much wind exposure, but the view from there isn’t anything special. My lightning trigger has arrived though, so I may get to test it some…

ParticipantFor those that are looking for a dedicated macro lens but are choking at the cost (I know I was!) Tamron’s 90mm Macro is a nice little lens for a much nicer price
Seconded. If you don’t mind all manual, the Adaptall 2 version (manual focus) is also excellent and even cheaper, although the most common version only goes to 1/2x magnification unaided.

ParticipantI searched flickr for “barren macro” in hopes of inspiration. Fail.
Maybe here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/macro_noflower_noinsect/

ParticipantWait, we’re not making them wear a red letter R on their clothes for a week? Hmph.

ParticipantMy daughter caught this guy on the driveway tonight. I don’t know what he is,
I’m fairly confident that’s a snake.
