Participant“Tin” in the case of cans and roofs generally means tin or zinc coated steel (iron in really old examples). Once the coating is compromised, the underlying steel does the actual rusting…

ParticipantI believe what you’re seeing is a reflection off the sensor, then back from the rear element of the lens. This is something that tends to happen more with older lenses that predate DSLRs – sensors are more reflective than film, and they weren’t designed to deal with that.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure the intent of the theme wasn’t “make a photo out of other photos”, it was more like “make a pleasing arrangement of a bunch of similar photos”:

I do think we probably need to clarify the theme, as most people think of the 1st definition when you say “photomosaic”….

ParticipantI guess there’s just an imbalance in how many non-flower plants I detail on. I could probably move the poison ivy shot over.
Uh, fauna = animals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauna)

ParticipantIf you’re going to have a category for “flora and fauna” it should probably have a bit more fauna in it? They seem to pretty much all be in “the Natural World” instead…

ParticipantMy thought is that this would be a good single lens for hiking and the like so I can leave it on the camera and not swapping in the two other zooms back and forth.
Are you really removing your 55-200 to get at the 28-55mm range on the 18-55 lens all that much, vs the 18-28mm range? Personally, I couldn’t manage without something considerably wider for walking around purposes….

ParticipantExposure’s good
I’m going to be cynical for a minute here, but I think that “exposure” in and of itself is pretty much worthless most of the time. It’s pretty rare for people to pay any attention to image credits, let alone act on them. I mean, if someone’s going to actively promote your work, that’s a different story, but a random image somewhere with a link back to your site? You’ll be lucky if it generates anything more than a handful of clickthroughs…

ParticipantRe-tallied with Rav’s (listed above) and my votes(I didn’t vote in the Fark.com thread):
The fark thread *was* the place to vote, it’s too late now…

ParticipantDamn, I guess we should have put more effort into getting out the vote, huh?

ParticipantDoes the 5100 have a focus priority setting for continuous AF? Release priority can cause that problem when you’re tracking moving objects.

Interesting how grounding the edges of the path at the bottom of the frame makes for a stable composition even with the horizon tilted (but in the end, I decided it was actually a bit *too* stable…)
