In the end, voting isn’t about the work you put into it, just what seems to be tickling the Farker’s fancy in that particular thread. There is a lesson in this somewhere, but I am basically to lazy to suss it out.

Random reward patterns (since the voting baffles us all) are the most addictive. Add to that the high need for achievement and love of ambiguity in the cultural creative subculture (this forum, since we create disproportionately more per capita than fark.com itself), and of course it’s rejected.
We want more confirmation of the value of our achievements, and but will bristle at many attempts to classify it.

Ever try to review a friend’s poetry?
I loved it, but I liked Suzy’s more = 90% chance of happy friend
I like the ____ aspect the most from yours, but Suzy’s was so ____ = 85% chance of happy friend
In the 3rd line, where you wrote____, is that about ____? because I thought it was ____, which really compliments ____ from the close. Not like how Suzy _____. Suzy’s structure just _____. To me, you poem is like ____’s work, which is so ____. Suzy’s is more like ____, so that’s why I prefer it. = 40% chance of happy friend

That’s why I say trophies. Mofos can’t nitpick trophies.

Good luck lokisbong. That really sucks. I don’t suppose you could get a back-dated prescription.

I thought the top vote getter got one (1) internets!

The internets is not a trophy!
You’d have to take it a taxidermist and have it mounted.

I still think if we’re going to take voting to heart we ought to have trophies.
Maybe just jpgs to start, but eventually medals, ribbons, statues and such. I mean, come on, who doesn’t want a trophy?

Could someone who reads contemporary fiction post three for me?
I’ve been on a history kick lately, and that puts me at a distinct disadvantage. Chicago has laws against using a Vickers or Maxim gun to mow down conscripted peasantry.

It does geotagging, AF assist light, and assorted other crap.

C’mon, those of you with older PS3s, go buy some SACDs, they’re amazing.

As someone who yells and threatens violence about SACD and D-VHS not catching on, I’ve gotta ask, could someone explain what’s wrong with this in terms of the product as delivered in the medium chosen by the consumers of the product?

Where were the people who demand quality when SACD came out? People were blabbing on about “ohh, I love my vinyl, blah blah blah, I’m a stupid head, blah blah blah, mp3 sucks, I never even tried SACD”! Well where is it? Where is the better than CD quality sound now?
Where were the people who demand quality when D-VHS came out? People were blabbing on with “tape is obsolete, and blah blah blah, no more rewinding, blah blah blah, oh optical is so sharp”. Well where’s your god damn lossless recording now!? A decade later, where the hell is it!? We had $5 50gb tapes that could have easily gone to 1tb if it took off.
Where are the people pushing for digital backs for SLRs? I want a god damn Foveon sensor on my god damn camera. I don’t want a new body when a better sensor comes out. I could use a 30 year old Pentax just fine! Let me buy a god damn $400 body and keep it for 20 years and replace the god damn sensor every 5!

And it was so, when staplermofo typed a message, and checked it, and posted it. And, behold, there came a color unto the thread, and it was orange.
This beginning of miracles did staplermofo in NikonDX1 of Hardware of Get technical, and manifested forth his glory; and nobody believed on him. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

We’re investigating this. I haven’t yet been willing to undo the plastic casing to verify what’s inside, but Jupiter at 800 pixels is awfully inviting to ponder, and I’m getting 60 fps.

    Buy 7 of these.

You’ll probably get it on your first try, but then you’d still have 6 more to try amping it up.

Webcams are surprisingly well constructed. Many even come with an unused c-mount securely on the circuit board.
    They look tantalizingly like this.

Come on, who wouldn’t want to slap a tiny, high resolution sensor on a tele/microscope?

Is there any reason in the world why we shouldn’t consider ourselves (and everyone else) as being beautiful?

    Beuller? Beuller?

I think the trick is not to let thoughts of beauty start bouncing around. You know, like how fashion people call models “clothes hangers”. I’ve gotten more people to pose nude with staplers than I’ve gotten people to pose at all without staplers. (in statistics this is called a sample bias)
It’s comforting to project a bit of “I put photographs out. This is something I do. There are lots of them out there and they make people happy. You can help.” instead of “I will capture your soul and throw undefended to the wilds of the internets, alone, cold, scrutinized and doomed to be soiled by cheeto dust and prepubescent azoospermic mucopolysaccherides”

Besides, photographic beauty ends up blurring its way into visually interesting. NHL players just end up more interesting as subject than B-listers with F cup boobs. (Unless you’re doing “zomg a naked person somewheres” shots.)

I’m not sure what you want close to what, but there are lenses that can focus on the dirt on their own front element.

    I froze my ass off.
    I froze my ass off.
    I froze my ass off
    I froze my ass off.

You know, when you freeze your ass off it just comes back twice as thick. (soosh‘s [or anyone’s who lives somewhere cold] opinion on the matter may differ.)

Even knowing that, the photograph still shows nothing more than some goofy guy having a great time at a pool.

That’s what I was getting at.
I don’t think I can pull it off, but it seems disingenuous not to try.
Well, it’s either that or my huge collection of bottled urine and assorted garbage. Ahh, if only I understood voters. Well, maybe after LaRouche wins this year I’ll finally be vindicated amirite*? Ever since that one dude rapped out why INFRASTRUCTURE is everything awesome about Jackson and Roosevelt did to the beat of Busta’s Break Ya Neck, Lyndon is grossing silver and netting pure gold in 2012 blaggity blaaaaagh!

(* not to be confused with Amorites, who are bad news, just ask the Israelites in the old testament, even if Og is a cool name)
