ParticipantAs I said at the end of the “Scanner as Camera” thread, it seemed that some of you had embarked on modification projects. Not that I believe anyone is going to start lugging around a tacked together hybrid “scamera”, but if the new tool were able to be used, and the output doesn’t embarrass the submitter, I would consider it a furthering of the art form. With that said, magazine and picture collages would seem to violate the spirit of the whole Farktography experiment.

ParticipantI only bring this up because it looked like a few F’tographers were in the process of “customizing” their scanners. It would seem a shame to turn away from their explorations on a technicality. Also, that whole “Macro” thing looks promising, even outside the parameters of a dedicated contest.

ParticipantThanks a Jillion, CISS. Can’t wait to dig around in there.

Participantand now I have a buttload of images I have to review for possible future contest inclusion.
You mean if/when we repeat the Scanner as Camera theme, as opposed to regular contests, right?
No, it’s in reference to my trip to the Colorado Rockies. Several images shot specifically for ‘In Deep Shadow’, and a vast plethora to choose from for ‘Volcanoes, etc’ (even harder still as I have a shot from April’s Tonto Ntl Mnmt shooting venture that simply *must* be in the contest). If you’ve never been to Telluride, go. Now. W.O.R.T.H. the gas to get there, in spades. One of the shots for ‘Shadows’, I feel, is one of my strongest yet. I hope the voters feel the same way–I’m absolutely in love with it.
As for a repeat scanner theme, I’d love to–but I’m sure that will be long down that winding contest road. OTOH, as I’ve dug through my belongings looking for the MIA wallet, I’ve gathered all my ‘film’ photos, in preparation for scanning. So in it’s own way, my new toy will get it’s share of use for contest purposes by way of getting my film shots into my archives for possible inclusion into future themes.
Ok, I guess what I was getting at is making sure you weren’t thinking of posting scanner-as-camera images in regular contests. Scanning prints/negatives to convert to digital format is legal, of course.
Does this mean that scans are off limits in regular contests now?

ParticipantI figured out on Saturday that my old scanner is older than they thought – they stopped supporting it at WinXP. Oops.
I had plans, too. Ah well.
We simply MUST do this again sometime soon, dahlinks!
I really liked the notion someone floated about boosting the resolution and doing macros.

ParticipantHey all, I just wanted to say THANKS for all your participation. This went beyond anything I imagined. Rav, that is seriously creative. U-man, there was no question about the reference, that was one of the most entertaining threads ever on FARK. Orion, how did you avoid the NSFW? Oh, yeah, it was FRUIT.

ParticipantI second Elsinore’s congratulation, Olavf, and commend all this weeks submitters.

ParticipantError403 here. First, thank you all for your kind words and the votes. My intent here was only to present an image I had made for a Photo class I took a few years back. My wife suggested I put it up when she read the contest subject. Reading the back and forth here has been a lot of fun.
I’m glad that there has been such interest in the relationship between camera and other forms of image capture. In fact, at that time I had planned to convert the scanner to a “camera” but was sidetracked by other concerns. Perhaps now would be a good time to dust off that old idea, however I’ll stop short of suggesting a scanner themed contest.
Thanks again. -
