KeymasterWhat’s up, J-Hole?
😮

KeymasterVery cool shot and it might be a good way to introduce him into darkroom burning – well, if it were b/w and all. But still, it’s a good opportunity to teach him about working on the contrast (via exposure) betwixt dog and flooring.
How old is your brother?
College freshman. He got a Nikon N75 for Christmas and I started him out on some nice C41 black and white films that he can develop at a minilab and still get pictures that will make him feel a little bit more confident about his first pictures.
He’s in Austin, so he has a number of resources for darkroom printing available to him — while I wouldn’t expect him to get started on that right now, I’m happy he has that around for when he does.

Keymasterthat sounds really cool – my SO and i are planning a collaborative art project involving doll parts in the shape of a xmas tree. we didn’t have it together enough to get it done for this year, but hopefully we’ll get our supplies and have it up next xmas.
other than that, i’m just trying to plow through everything i’ve shot in the past couple of months – organizing, keywording, etc.
busy busy!
You’re going to have to forgive me if I’m having trouble visualizing that. 😀 Do the arms/legs form the branches or what?

Keymasterhey synthemesc!
What up monkey.
This month I have two fun photographic projects. An event poster for a private client where I get to do some creative ad work, and a studio shoot that will end up as part of a recruiting DVD at work. So 2006 is starting off well.
Once the event poster is done I’m going to post something on “the making of” from sketches to final product. Should be neat.

KeymasterHey all! No entries this week, gotta keep my shutter finger in tone for next.

KeymasterHey folks,
I’ve been a lurker for a few months. I’ve really getting into digital photography as of late (I FINALLY got a tripod for Christmas so I’m taking more pics now). I’m starting to flex my creative muscle, so I’m not that good yet. But I would love to get in on the Farkamera project! 🙂
Welcome to the show, Stu. What kind of equipment are you sporting?

Keymasterthat would be great! please go ahead and do it when you have time?
No problem; I’ll do it this week.

KeymasterThat’s just awesome. I’d totally use it if I weren’t currently powering Blogger. Maybe I should look into WordPress for as much as I use and modify my Simpleviewer galleries…
There’s a demo over here for anybody that wants to see what it looks like.

Keymasterhmmm….just realized that you maybe weren’t offering – i certainly didn’t mean to trap you into doing it anything!!
/durr
// 😳
No, no, I’m certainly offering. It really wouldn’t take that much time, and it would be fun to track it across the world. As an example, everybody adds their address. When they receive the camera, they hit a link (with an e-mail to the previous sender letting them know they’ve gotten it, and to them with the address of the next person). And when they’ve sent it on, they hit another (with an e-mail to the next person letting them know it’s on its way). That way we can track the Farkamera.
It’s just another layer of fun for everyone. 😉 That being said, if we want to stick to the pencil and paper, that’s cool with me too — just because I’m offering, I don’t want people to feel they’re obligated to go with such a plan.

Keymasteri have been mapped!
it might be hard to just know the next person’s address…actually..hmm.
maybe if you sent an individual email to everyone, telling them who the next person in line was? that way only you’d have all the addresses….but then you’d have to send out 27 (or whatever) individual emails….hmmm.
Like I said, it would be pretty easy to set up something automated for this little project where we could collect addresses and then the system could automagically send out mails.

KeymasterHiya synthemesc. How’s your week going?
Hey veruca!
My little brother got his first SLR for Christmas, a Nikon N75. He’s been following me around all week being half-confused because, as he confessed to me, the terms “fast” and “slow” apply to films, lenses, and shutter speed. I clarified it for him and he seemed to have gotten it. But then the lab seems to have mixed up his first roll. 🙁 I’m flying back tomorrow, so we’ll see how that works out. Other than that, I had forgotten how much fun it is to teach somebody about photography.

KeymasterFYI, an Aperture 1.01 update was released. This supposedly fixes a few of the major issues early adopters had experienced. I’d consult the Ars review and followup for a rundown:

KeymasterWas curious which printing services are good for high quality photo printing. I have an Epson R200 for home use (pics on the ‘fridge and such) and have used Snapfish for ages. Now a couple of friends from back home have requested prints and I’d like them to stand the test of time.
Any suggestions?
While I don’t know much about the R200 series, which coincidentally, somebody was asking about a few weeks ago — I do know that the Epson R800 and the newer R1800 use archival quality pigment inks as opposed to dye inks in a special 8 color process. These inks are apparently rated to 104 years under normal lighting conditions and 200 years under the absence of light, assuming you use acid free archival papers that won’t sabotage your expensive inks. Nobody ever found out if the inks and/or cartridges for the R1800 were backwards compatible to the rest of the series
I’ve been pleased with the few scans I’ve sent to AdoramaPix. AdoramaPix uses Noritsu QSS-31 laser transfer printers (which expose standard papers via a laser scanning system) on Ilford papers.

KeymasterI just scored a bunch of darkroom goodies, but I don’t have a safelight. Can I use a 25 watt red light bulb? I have one of those…
You can use a red light bulb in a pinch, because most B&W papers are completely oblivious to *most* of the red portion of the visible spectrum. You’ll notice, however, that a purpose-made safelight is actually amber and coated to limit transmission to a very specific spectrum — and that 15 watts is generally considered the max, so either use a dimmer or move it a tad away.
