Veruca, if I read it right, KM and Sony will service the cameras. I’d grab some lenses if I were you. That stuff will be going cheap.

At the worst, the manager is a photographer and understands if there’s a problem. I’d go up to 8×10 with them, and I think they do a great Black & White with some tweaking on your own.
For big jobs, I bring a bottle of Merlot over to my Dad’s and fire up the Epson 4800.

Sometimes, when shooting into a point light source, you’ll get a ghost reflection off the light bouncing off the front element and back up to the filter. Since the filters are multi-coated, that should alleviate some of it.
That said, I don’t put any “protection” filters on my cheap lenses or macro lenses. They don’t need one more piece of glass to overcome.

I do know that if you’re using older flash units, they won’t operate in TTL mode on the D50, something to consider in the total price, I suppose.
January 13, 2006 at 7:01 am #4251Born SlippyParticipantThey’re pretty much standard filter sizes, and fit standard filter threads (my set of Hoya lenses are about 20 years old) so you can use them on any lens with the same filter diameter (unless you use step rings, but that’s a different topic)
For 55 mm you’d by this set:

January 11, 2006 at 3:16 am #4103Born SlippyParticipantdang it, thought I logged in…above reply from me
January 5, 2006 at 7:10 am #4030Born SlippyParticipantVeruca, congrats! If my father didn’t shoot Canon (we do nature stuff and rent lenses), I would have bought the Minolta. One cool thing about the Minolta is there are some great used lenses CHEAP. Go to Keh.com and take a look. I still think about getting a 5D anyway just to shoot low light with primes and built-in stabilization.
January 5, 2006 at 5:13 am #4099Born SlippyParticipantThe rumors are that the 20D replacement may show up at the PMA show in February but I’m thinking more like Photokina in the fall. I know the D200 is built solid, but I’m not sure the 20d needs fixing, at least picture-wise. Maybe the new camera will be built like the EOS3.
Too bad about your Minolta gear, I thought they were the only ones who nailed the ergonomics. I hated getting rid of my 600si.
December 22, 2005 at 5:44 am #3566Born SlippyParticipantA lot of PJs are using Photo Mechanic, however the Free Google Picassa is doing OK by me.
December 22, 2005 at 5:37 am #3589Born SlippyParticipantT’would be cool. We did a thing like that on SportsShooter.com once and some great stuff came out of it.
December 22, 2005 at 5:35 am #3533Born SlippyParticipantOK…now I actually logged in. Kudos to the architects of this board!
