But style! I’ve got no style that isn’t my own. Do you think it would be OK to submit a few pics that reflect my style (whatever that is) without having them based on another’s work? Or should I just hold on to them until they fit another weeks’ topic?

I’m sure that will be OK but you could also look through this link and see if anything inspires you.

Don’t sweat things around here it’s not worth it and you will go crazy. Everyone here is pretty laid back and will certainly cut you some slack if you are not a photography major as most of us aren’t.
I’m just happy that this little site has inspired people such as yourself to take photos and share them.

I’d hate for it to just become a PS contest, but I’m also wondering if relaxing the rules a bit for this one might make sense…

I don’t think it will become a photoshop contest but lets admit it, If you want to emulate Ansel Adams you have to dodge and burn because that is what he did. He would spend months making image after image each a little different.

Should we put a small image of what atrist we are trying to copy above or below our submission?

The style That I usually sell is highly layered. Is this permissible for this contest.

I just got the software last night and it is kinda fun. Will it be OK to get rid of the watermark with photoshop for this contest(yes I know it is against the rules)? I just hate to spend 100 bucks for a contest. Actually I guess if I have to spend the money I would rather just upgrade CS to CS2.

Here is my first one with the watermark removed by clone and heal.

The forks theme hasn?t come to pass yet but it will eventually (or was this a serious proposal?).

Not serious at all, Just an example. Believe me when I say that I wasn’t trying to criticise the picking process. I just wanted to know what people preferred. Sorry if I came off too harshly.

😳 That last comment of mine sounds about a thousand times snottier than it is intended. I just think there is room for all of it. Variety is the spice and all of that.

    Then you need 1000 whacks with a wet noodle. 😆 😆 😆

the style theme coming up has me intrigued probably the most of any of the upcoming themes.

I love David Lachapelle and am trying to find a large woman to let me wrap her in cling wrap and lay her down in a field and then take the picture with a wide angle lens. You would see the figure and be able to know that it was female but no details would be visible. Then the viewer would see the heavy Hay bales in the vicinity meant for feeding and wonder about the meaning.

I see no problem with it. Think of it this way, all the images to be combined are the same except for exposure. The rules state that any filter put over the entire image is acceptable and that you can use the curves feature in photoshop which is very powerful. By using curves you can take a flat sky and bring out all the clouds that were otherwise overexposed and not hurt the other parts of the photo.
We let digital in with its huge raw format advantage(exposure not right, just change it). We let roll film into the contest that has the advantage over making a daguerreotype of not having to breath mercury vapors.
All that HDR does is to make it very easy to get shadow detail and highlight detail that are outstanding. Think of it as the zone system in an algorithm.

You can take a cookie sheet that has sides on it and put a leaf or whatever in it then fill with water and freeze. Take it out, prop it up, shoot through it and you get instant art. The point is to just think up crap.
If we had a mountian theme I would look for an ant hill and go macro because there are no mountains in Indiana.
Just remember, The image is less than half of a photo, most of it is vision.
You won’t always be rewarded for your vision in these contest but oh well, it’s not like there is a prize.

    /wishes there was a prize

I’m in, it will be fun using a camera without a pc terminal. And if you think I’ll not try to figure out how to use studio lights with it your nuts. Anyone got a holga we could pass around? I could buy the film and pay for processing.

Just trying to see if I’m smart enough to figure out how to use this new fangled forum.
And good work people. Also I should say that I thought Monkeybort was a guy before tonight. I should read profiles more often. 😉
