ParticipantHate to do this ’cause it’s doing well and it’s a great shot, but I was browsing random contestant’s pages and noticed that aspidites’ entry was almost certainly previously used in Nature Photography. I say “almost certainly” because the actual file names are different, but the shots are identical, which is why it wasn’t automatically picked up.

ParticipantAlmost forgot – bees are here. Really wavered back & forth between the cave monster “A” and the wormhole “B”.

Participantrav, the basic template is
http://www.fark.com/comments/threadId/commentIdthreadId is the unique thread identifier and is easily found by looking in the address bar when on the thread comments page. For example, 7 is the threadId for the Farktography discussion thread.
commentId is the unique ID assigned to every comment and is a bit more difficult to come by. You can view the source for the page and find the particular comment you’re looking for, but the easiest way is probably to use the Quote [“”] button for the comment itself and then look at the HTML inserted into the comment box.
For example, here’s the HTML from the comment box when I clicked the [“”] button for one of your entries:
ravnostic: Central Ave. @ Jackson St., Railway Underpass

*Lovely* neighborhood in which to go shooting at 3am. (I mean with a camera--others may mean differently. YMMV )The URL to that comment is then http://www.fark.com/comments/6466501/71003191.

ParticipantHere are the b’s:
Not specifically listed as a b, but DSC_0514_e is a great shot.

ParticipantDo let us know how it turns out for you, rav. When’s the festival? And echoing Farktographer – Good luck!

ParticipantI was thinking along the same lines. Now I’m not sure if I should post it…I don’t want it appear that I am stealing the ideas of another photographer.
I wouldn’t worry about that, oddmind. Look through past theme threads and you’ll find that we often come up with the same ideas independently. As long as your execution is different, I don’t think anyone will accuse you of stealing ideas.

ParticipantMost references to community based websites with a single letter between two slashes are sections of “4chan.com”.
Ah, that makes sense. I’ve heard of /b/ of course, but not /p/. In that case, swampa, it would appear that we should substitute farktography for /p/. Doing that certainly makes the graph a lot more applicable!
It appears I’m headed for “Gearfaggotry”. I’m not sure what that means but it sounds like fun.
I believe “gearfaggotry” is the phase where you know just enough about photography that you can manage to convince yourself (and even better, your spouse), that you could actually get your money’s worth out of that high $ glass that you wouldn’t have given a second thought about buying earlier. Or so I’ve heard. 😉

ParticipantI’ve either skipped over it or it’s still to come, but I’ve yet to play with HDR seriously.
But what’s /p/ and why does it cause the precipitous fall in self-perception?

ParticipantMy camera manual says to put your camera & lens in plastic bags (before taking them outside) and then let them acclimate to the temperature change before removing them from the plastic bags. I’ve never tried it, so let me know if it works if you do.

ParticipantZero, as long as they’re not caged, that’s fine. I have a few “wild animals in my backyard” that I plan to use.
I just re-read this and saw that it could possibly be misinterpreted, so just to be clear: Animals caged as pets are out; caged, normally wild animals (like at a zoo) are OK.

ParticipantHuh?
My internet’s been down again today, but yeah, what Zero said^.
If you click “sort by Total Votes” on the contest page, you’ll see all of the contestants ranked by the sum of votes for all their entries. In this case, you and kashari both got 58 votes total, which ties you for first place.
I like to look at the total votes ranking as a contest within the contest. You’ve got to have 3 strong (or 2 very excellent) entries to make it to the top of that list, but they don’t necessarily have to be the winner, as demonstrated here.

ParticipantYeah, I’d prefer to keep it “animal” as it’d be interpreted in the common fellah’s vernacular; in other words, no “bugs”, insects, arachnids. Perhaps we should include something like that in the theme description?
